| Brandon Kahle Beach Brandon Kahle Beach was born Jan. 16, 1998, in Lawton to T.J. and Diane Beach. He died Monday, Jan. 17, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus. Brandon was a sports fanatic. He loved to play football, baseball, basketball and golf. Beach was a big Sooner fan and he loved going to games with his family. Beach enjoyed watching his two big brothers, Jason and Jordan, play football, baseball and basketball. He loved to go to work farming with his dad and help his mom in the kitchen. His favorite things to make were pancakes and cookies. Beach enjoyed playing with his brothers, friends and his cousins. He attended Sunday school at the First Baptist Church of Altus. We loved our Brandon dearly for the seven years and one day that he blessed our lives. We miss him so much but know that he is with our heavenly Father. Beach is survived by his parents, T.J. and Diane Beach; four brothers, Jordan, Kory, Jason and Derek; grandparents, Tommy and Jane Beach of Elmer, Nadine Voegeli of Lawton, Albert and Deanna Voegeli of Indiahoma; great-grand parents, E.E. | BAEZA Mateo V. Baeza, age 74 of Altus, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. Mr. Baeza was born on September 21, 1932, in Mexico to Tiofilo and Felicitas (Valeriano) Baeza. In 1952, he married his wife, Patricia, and they spent forty-eight wonderful years together before her death in 2000. Moving to the Altus area in 1969, Mateo farmed and worked in the agriculture business until his death. Known for his hard work, Mateo was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons, Esmundo and Artemio and one daughter, Fransisca, Mateo is survived by nine children, Armando Baeza of Mexico, Eddie Baeza and wife Victoria of Dumas, Texas, Elodia DelaCruz of Norman, Oklahoma, Hortencia (Tisha) Crowder of Kingfisher, Oklahoma, Gracie Martinez and husband Raul of Altus, Delia Jackson of Wichita, Kansas, Robert Baeza and wife Dori of Amarillo, Texas, Israel Baeza and wife Barbara of Amarillo, Texas and Jose (Freddie) Baeza of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Petra Avila and husband Juan of Mexico and Lilia Rodriguez of Andrews, Texas; three brothers, Urbano Baeza and wife Arcelia of Midland, Texas, Domingo Baeza of Stratford, Texas and Ismael Baeza and wife Jesus of Mexico; sixteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces other relatives and friends. | Johnathon Peter Baartman Johnathon Peter Baartman, age 26, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2006 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Johnathon was born and raised in Altus, he attended the Altus Public Schools and graduated from Altus High School in 1999. After high school he attended the S.W. Technology Center in the administrative assistant course and the Wrights School of Business in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Johnathon’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his son Cam’ron, his family and friends. He was of the Protestant faith. He is survived by his son Cam’ron of Cache, Oklahoma; father Lyle Baartman of Altus, grandparents Pete and Shirley Baartman of Altus. Johnathon is also survived by one sister Jessika Shay and husband John of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Jeremiah Baartman and wife Angel of Altus, Oklahoma; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. | Barber Gail Everett Barber, 68, of Hollis, formerly of Enid, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2006, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Gail was born February 25, 1938, to Orville and Wilma (King) Barber in Satanta, Kansas. He married Sara Ann Courtney July 21, 1957, in Independence, Kansas, and they were blessed with the birth of twin boys, Greg and Tim, September 8, 1958. Gail worked for farm cooperatives for 34 years before retiring. He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Enid, Oklahoma. He had recently attended the First United Methodist Churches of Hollis and Gould where his wife is pastor. Gail enjoyed making woodworking for others, especially the rocking horses for the grandchildren and other children. Survivors are his wife Sara of the home in Hollis, Oklahoma; two sons, Greg of Enid, and Tim of Perry; six grandchildren, Scott of Perry, Michelle and her husband Curt Garrett of Alliance, Nebraska, Sarah, Courtney, Joshua, and Rebekah of Alliance, Nebraska; five great-grandchildren, Kayla and Scott Barber, Jr. of Perry, Aubrey and Austin Garrett of Alliance, Nebraska, and Mason Lunberry of Alliance, Nebraska; one brother Norville and his wife Lois Barber of Caldwell, Idaho, and one sister Willa and her husband Amos Cott of Garden City, Kansas; two sisters-in law, Ona Barber of Johnson, Kansas, and Betty Barber of Johnson, Kansas. Gail is also survived by a son adopted by heart, Richard Knight and his wife Heidi and their children Arick, Karissa, Andrew, Kailene, and Kaitlyn of Enid, Oklahoma. There were also many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Edward and Kenneth Barber, both of Johnson, Kansas. | BROWN Lester Arno Brown, age 73 of Altus, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 25, 2007. Les was born on January 9, 1934, to Arno and Sarah McClements Brown in New York City, New York. A veteran of the United States Navy, Les and his family moved to Altus in the late 1960’s while working with Civil Service. During most of his time at Altus Air Force Base, Les worked on the electronic systems of the flight simulators. Les was a member of the Amateur Radio Club, Lionel Train Club and the B-17 Historical Society. For enjoyment, Les spent time making displays with his many trains, flying and working on and operating his amateur radios. Preceded in death by his parents, Les is survived by one daughter, Leslie Anne Brown of Kenosha, Wisconsin; two granddaughters, Catherine (Kat) Brown and Rebecca Brown of Kenosha, Wisconsin along with many friends. | BROWN Bennie Arvel Brown, age 68 of Altus, passed away early Monday morning, February 12, 2007, at English Village Manor. Mr. Brown was born on September 13, 1938, at Kermit, Texas to Robert J. and Lorea (Hair) Brown. He graduated from Odessa, Texas High School and worked at various jobs until joining the United States Air Force in 1966. On April 29, 1967, he married Helen Epling at Odessa, Texas and lived in several places during his career. In 1977, they moved to Altus where he worked at Altus Air Force Base until his retirement in May of 1986. After leaving the Air Force, he began work for United Airlines as a C-5 Loadmaster Instructor. Later changing their name from United Airlines to Flight Safety, Bennie retired from that job in 1999. Muzzle loading and shooting, fishing, watching television and attending and participating in Indian pow-wows were some of his pastimes, but being with his family and friends was his favorite. Bennie was a member of the National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a 32nd Scottish Rite Mason, Past Master of Altus Lodge 62 and Past Patron of the Altus Order of Easter Star Lodge 49. Preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bennie is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, Robert Brown and wife Natasha; one granddaughter, Alexis Brown; two sisters, Dorothy Grizzard of Big Springs, Texas and Cora Bell Shows and husband Dutch of Odessa, Texas; one brother, Robert Brown and wife Lawanda of Odessa, Texas along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. | Gary Reed Barrett Gary Reed Barrett was born in Altus, Oklahoma 12-24-1945, the first of five children born to Charles Reed Barrett and Mary Ferne Caves Barrett. Gary grew up on his parents’ farm, loving the outdoors. At age 12 he was baptized at Martha Baptist church. He loved the Lord and felt called to be a preacher. He graduated from Martha High School in 1964. He began attending college at Oklahoma Baptist University, where he met and married Nancy Carolyn Golden. They had two daughters, Kimberlee Anne and Rachel Suzanne. He completed his degree at Hardin Simmons in law enforcement in 1971. During his life he worked in law enforcement in Abilene, TX; Snyder, TX; Mesquite, TX; Douglas, WY; and Cody, WY and also worked undercover for the DEA for a number of years. He married his beloved wife Michelle Lynn Maupin in 1990. In 1993 he adopted Michelle’ s daughter Kimberley Kay, then age six. After marrying Michelle, he fulfilled a life-long dream of working on and managing large ranches in South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming. From 1999 to 2006 he and Michelle and Kimberly K. returned to Oklahoma where they built a home outside Martha near the Salt Fork of the Red River. At the time of his death, he was living in Pueblo, CO. Over his lifetime, Gary worked in trucking, ranching, farming and law enforcement. Although he never had a pulpit, he preached the love and mercy of Jesus Christ wherever he went. His love of the Lord was magnetic and genuine. He understood hardship. He understood redemption. He was a faithful son, loving father, proud grandfather and dear friend, beloved by many. He never met a stranger. His smile and ready laugh could light up a room. He wasn’t afraid to show emotion or affection, or to speak about matters of the heart and eternal things. His family and friends rejoice that he is with the Lord, but he will be sorely missed. Gary is survived by his wife Michelle Barrett; his parents, Charles and Ferne Barrett; his three daughters Kimberlee A. (David) Barrett-Johnson, Rachel (Lewis) Hogan, and Kimberly K. | Ethel “Irene” Bowman Ethel “Irene” Bowman, age 78, of Blair, passed away Friday, March 2, 2007, at her home. Irene was born June 14, 1928, in Atoka, Oklahoma, to Sam and Omie Annie (Furr) Aterberry. She married Jessie Bowman March 25, 1950, in Vernon, Texas. They lived in Tipton, Oklahoma, for many years before moving to Blair fifteen years ago. Irene was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to sew and listen to music. She also loved fishing and especially catching perch. Irene was very fond of her dog “Bubba” and loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jessie on February 18, 1999, two sisters, Eloise Dudley and Joyce Williamson, and a daughter-in-law, Martha Bowman, Irene is survived by three sons, Jimmy Dale Pierson and wife Deanna of Hobbs, New Mexico, Merlin Bowman of Denver, Colorado, Curtis Bowman of Wichita Falls, Texas; one daughter, Nita Jo Everett of Blair; nine grandchildren, Chad Pierson, Travis Pierson, Kristy Bowman, Merlin Lance Bowman, Keith Curtis Bowman, Jessica Mae Bowman, Cassie Spring, Jennifer Walker, and Jalynn Walker; fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. | Margaret Ellen Bex Margaret Ellen Bex, 87 of Altus passed away Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma. She was born November 19,1919 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Helen (Archer) Meeks and John Logan Meeks. Margaret graduated from Frederick High School in 1937 and later attended TWU in Denton, Texas. On January 21, 1940 in Frederick,Oklahoma Margaret and F.F. “Chug” Bex were united in marriage. He preceded her in death July 21, 1978. Margaret had lived in the Altus community since March of 1964 moving here from Frederick, Oklahoma. She was a longtime member and past president of PEO-Chapter CM; Voguette Bridge Club, Thursday Bridge Club. While living in Frederick she served as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church; and was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Altus. She is survived by her daughter Jan of Norman, Oklahoma; two grandsons; Josh of Norman, Oklahoma, Michael of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister-in-law Bess Dowdy, one niece Suzanne Kavanagh; two nephews John Dobbs and Mike Dobbs; and several great-nieces and great-nephew. She is also survived by her precious GiGi. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Joanne Dobbs. | BAARTMAN Peter C. Baartman, age 72, of Altus, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Pete was born on May 27, 2007, to Peter Jr. and Sadie (Mollema) Baartman at Middleburg, Iowa. On November 9, 1956, he married the love of his life, Shirley Mae Slykhuis, and they were married fifty wonderful years before his death. In 1969, the Baartmans moved to Altus from New Jersey while Pete was in the United States Air Force. In 1975, Pete retired and went to work for Altus Electric as an electrician. He later purchased the business and continued working until his death. Fishing and bowing were some of Pete’s pastime activities, but his favorite thing to do was spend time with his children and grandchildren. | BUCK Joe Buck, of Altus, civic leader, professional baseball player, and businessman, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2007, at his home following a courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Eddie Joe Buck was born in Elmer, Oklahoma, on May 15, 1931, to Joe and Lola Mae Buck. He grew up in Altus, and is remembered by many for cycling his physically handicapped sister, Bettie Anne, on his bicycle handles to Washington Elementary. He lovingly took her to ball games and wherever he went. Buck attended Altus Schools and graduated in 1940 at the age of 17. His mentor, Bill Williams, recommended Joe for a baseball scholarship at Oklahoma A & M, now known as Oklahoma State University. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity in Stillwater, Oklahoma. During his junior year, he signed a baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M with a degree in economics. Joe credits Eula and Clifford Peterson for the encouragement they and the First Baptist Church gave him through his growing up years. After college, Joe served two years in the Korean Conflict, then returned to the Red Sox. He played ball until 1956. In October of 1956, Joe received the opportunity to begin his career in Altus. He entered into business with Johnny Gregg Real Estate and Insurance. It later became Gregg, Buck, & Roberson Agency, now know as Century 21 Altus Prestige Realty. For many years, Buck was actively involved in many civic endeavors in the community. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce twice and as president of the Kiwanis Club twice. He was president of the Altus and Oklahoma Board of Realtors, seved on military affairs, and attended Altus Air Force committees regularly. He served three years as an Altus Schools board member and was a deacon at the First Baptist Church, where he also taught Sunday School for several years to high school boys. Joe spearheaded the drive to build the Industrial Park, and worked diligently to build the Southwest Technical Center. In 1952, leading Oklahoma A & M to a Missouri Valley Conference Southern Division championship, Joe became the first Oklahoman to earn All-American Baseball honors. In 1992, Joe was in the first class to be inducted into the Oklahoma State Baseball Hall of Fame in Stillwater. Joe shared special times with his grandchildren when he took them to breakfast each Wednesday morning prior to school. After semi-retirement, Joe and Marilyn enjoyed motor homing throughout the U.S. His family honored Joe on his 75th birthday with a golf tournament and luncheon at the Altus Elks and Country Club. This was a show of appreciation for Joe’s devotion to his family, as well as time and efforts in building “Altus With A Future To Share”. Joe Buck was preceded in death by his parents Joe & Lola Mae Buck, and his sister, Bettie Anne. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of the home; his brother Bill Buck of New Orleans, La.; his children, Mary and Billy Moore of Lubbock, TX, Gregg and Andrea Buck of Altus, Tina and David Cossey, Teri Philbrick and Toye and George Mitchell, all of Edmond, OK. His great pleasure was in being a grandparent to Whitney Mitchell Nelson and her husband Jeremy, Carson Mitchell, Stacy and Brayden Buck, Megan Myers, Abbey and Bennett Philbrick, and Jacob and Justin Cossey. | Bobbie Lou Beets Bobbie Lou Beets, age 91, of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus. She was born June 13,1916 in Hollis Oklahoma to Robert Nathan Morris and Geneva (Duvall) Morris. On November 2, 1940 Bobbie and Hamon Ira Beets were united in marriage. Bobbie taught school at Eugene Field in Altus for many years and was voted teacher of the year before she retired in 1978. After she retired she volunteered at the hospital, was active with the United Methodist Women and the quilting club. Bobbie was a charter member of Good Sams Club. She was longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus. She is survived by her loving husband H.I. Beets of sixty-six years; one son Charles Beets and wife Susan of Benton, Arkansas; two sisters, Madeline McGee of Hollis, Oklahoma, Ruby Wooldridge of Mangum,Oklahoma; daughter-in-law Merry Garner of Argyle, Texas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Elaine Berthelot, one son Jerry Beets; one grandson DuWayne Beets and one brother C.L.Morris. | BLOOMBERG John Donovan Bloomberg, age 88, of Altus, passed away late Friday evening, November 30, 2007, at Plantation Care Center in Altus. Mr. Bloomberg was born on July 29, 1919, in Frankfort, Kansas to John Albert Benjamin and Beulah May (Davis) Bloomberg. A graduate of Walthena, Kansas, John had a successful football career while maintaining a farming job during school. Following graduation, he moved to Dearborn, Missouri where he continued to farm until February of 1942, when he was drafted into the United States Army. During the next two and half years, John served his country in several locations in the Asia-Pacific Theater including two times at Guadalcanal. Earning the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, the APTC Ribbon and the Combat Infantry Badge, he was discharged in October 1944 and returned to Dearborn to farm. After a short time in farming, John began working in the grocery business and continued in that vocation for the next twenty-five years before owning and operating Flavor Maid Donut Shops in three different locations. After retiring in the mid 1990's he moved to Altus where he made his home until his death. John is survived by two children, Elizabeth Jean Karr and husband Larry of Colorado Springs, Colorado and John Dwain Bloomberg and wife Terri L. of Headrick, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; one brother, David Bloomberg and wife Doris of Dearborn, Missouri along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A memorial service for John Donovan Bloomberg will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. George Lupton officiating. | Thomas Brown Thomas (Tom) Brown of Olustee passed away at Jackson County Memorial Hospital Monday, March 17, 2008. Tom was born October 16, 1917 to Waters and Eva (Clinton) Brown in Ardmore Oklahoma. Tom married his wife Neg (Muse) Brown on May 6, 1941 in Altus, Oklahoma. They were married for 66 years. Tom owned and operated Tom’s Station in Olustee for 40+ years from 1959 until his retirement in 2002. Tom also served the City of Olustee as Fire Chief for 20+ years. Olustee residents could always hear a tune in downtown Olustee as Tom was always whistling while he worked. He was a local favorite with the kids as he always had a piece of bubble gum for them after school and was out on Fridays. Tom enjoyed bowling and was always ready for a good game of cards or dominos. Tom was always eager for a road trip to Stillwater to spend time with his family and a friendly game of Pitch. The town of Olustee honored Tom when the Mayor and Town Council proclaimed Saturday, November 16, 1996 as Tom Brown Day in Olustee, Oklahoma. Tom is survived by his wife Neg, son Mike and wife Danna, grandchildren Bryan and wife Catherine, Michelle Brown and fiancee Doug Mauk along with four great grandchildren Hayden Brown (5), Holden Brown (5) Skyler Mauk (2) and Parker Brown (2).He is also survived by two sisters Willie Edna Billington and Marjorie Siefert. Tom was preceded in death by his son Thomas Clinton Brown, parents Waters and Eva Brown, brothers E.W. Brown, Aubrey Brown, J.C. Eva Lois Brewer Eva Lois Brewer,74, of Eldorado, passed away on April 12, 2008 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Eva was born August 14, 1933, in Eldorado to George and Lois Smith. Eva attended Eldorado High School and then pursued her life-long ambition of becoming a nurse. She was a nurse from 1956-1976 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital where she helped countless patients in need. After she retired from the hospital, she worked briefly for Dr. Noble Ballard until her health declined. Eva has been fondly remembered through the years by many of her former patients and co-workers. She was a member of the Eldorado First Baptist Church. Eva is survived by her mother, Lois Smith, Eldorado; daughter, Joy Whitlock and husband Mark, Altus; son Danny Campsey, Bagwell Texas; sisters, Paula Ledbetter and Ann Tinney, Eldorado; and brother Bill Smith and wife Pam of Blue Springs, Missouri. Eva was very proud of her five grandchildren: Tangie Pappo, Altus; Melanie MacKenzie, Lubbock, TX; Brian Whitlock, Plainview, TX; J.B. Campsey, Bagwell, TX; and Christen Campsey, Clarksville, TX. | Hamon Ira Beets Hamon Ira Beets came kicking and screaming into this world on February 14,1914 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Walter D. and Mamie Ruth Medlin Beets. On November 2, 1940 he married Bobbie Lou Morris whom he truly loved with all his heart and depended greatly through 67 years of marriage. Bobbie Lou said that once she saw him dance she knew she had to marry him! He was a dedicated employee of the City of Altus Water Department for 30 years and enjoyed farming, fishing, camping, traveling and arguing with the television. He also like winning at dominoes but didn’t particularly like losing. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for over fifty years, a charter member of the Good Sam Club, a fifty year member of the Masons, and a unapologetic republican. He had an opinion about everything, and was a man who didn’t hesitate to assert his strong will. He most of all loved to talk and socialize with family and friends. Hamon lived to the ripe young of 94 years and was preceded into the arms of the Heavently Father by his parents, Walter and Mamie Ruth Beets, wife Bobbie Lou, two sons: Charles Beets,Jerry D. Beets, daughter Elaine Bertholet, grandson Jerry DuWayne Beets Jr., and sister Gladys Lorene Worthington. He is survived by brothers; Walter D. Beets,Jr., Donald Beets and sister Viola Mae Edwards, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. | Nolda Bonds Nolda (Sechrist) Bonds, age 93, a resident of Norman, formerly of Elmer, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in Norman. Nolda was born in Erath County, Texas on April 1, 1915 to Julius Walker and Mary Emma (Lennox) Sechrist. She married Alfred McCracken and after his death she married Buck Bonds and they were married for over twenty two years before his death in 1964. Nolda was a beautician and enjoyed crocheting, crosswords, dominoes, and was a star bingo player. She loved spending time with her grandbabies and made all her grandchildren feel special. She was always thrilled when her grandchildren would come to visit her and she will be missed very much. She is preceded in death by husband, Alfred McCracken; husband, Buck Bonds; parents, Julius Walker and Mary Emma Sechrist; three brothers; six sisters; and one great grandchild, Brian Bradley Thurmond. Larry Wayne Boling Larry Wayne Boling, age 57, a long-time resident of Altus, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008 at his home in Altus. Larry was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on December 19, 1950 to Floyd Bill and Elizabeth (Collins) Boling. On January 22, 2006 he married Cletta Von Dawson in Altus. Larry was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Altus and worked as a heavy equipment operator for Rent City for over 24 years before retiring. Larry loved fishing and his family and grandchildren and he will be missed very much. Baartman Lyle Baartman, 49, a longtime resident ofAltus, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, in Altus. Lyle was born in Lincoln, Neb., on Sept. 28, 1959, to Peter and Shirley (Slykhuis) Baartman. He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Altus and worked for the City of Altus in the Parks and Recreation department. Lyle was also a self employed carpenter. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Lyle loved his family and he will be missed very much. He was preceded in death by his father; and one son, Johnathon Baartman. | BRADLEY Betty Lou Bradley, age 85, of Tipton, passed away early Saturday morning, March 7, 2009, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Bradley was born on December 10, 1923, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Living in Arizona in the early years of her life, she moved to Wichita, Kansas where she spent most of her life working as a recorder with seismograph crews in the petroleum industry. After loosing most of her family, she moved to Tipton in 1998, to be near her closest friend of over fifty years, Margaret Johns. Mrs. Bradley loved to travel, cook, entertain guest and spend time with her family and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one brother and one sister, she is survived by four cousins of Arizona and many other friends and relatives that include special friends, Joe and Margaret Johns and Evelyn Dieffenbaugh of Tipton. | BARKER Richard Barker, the eighth child of Albert and Eula Mae (Ellingberg) Barker, passed this life on May 11, 2009, at the Oklahoma Veteran’s Center in Ardmore, Oklahoma, at the age of 56. Richard was born March 21, 1953, in Scranton, Arkansas. He attended the public schools in Altus, Oklahoma and participated in the wrestling and football programs while in school. He was voted Mr. Southeast while attending Southeast School. After completing his education, Richard entered the United States Army and served his country for three years. Richard moved to California where he met Birdel Cottinham, and they were united in marriage July 17, 1977. To this union, three children were born. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Birdel Barker of Simsboro, Louisiana; five children, Kylee Barker of Natchitoches, Louisiana, Richard T. Barker of Ruston, Louisiana, Kristi Barker of Sacramento, California, Chendra R. Chambers of Altus, Oklahoma, and Cassandra Boyd, also of Altus; nine brothers and sisters, Rose Harris and husband Avon of Childress, Texas, Charles Barker and wife Wanda of Altus, Albert Barker and wife Althea of Oakland, California, Queen Fuller and husband Clarence of Oakland, California, Anna Mays of Riverside, California, Ralph Barker and wife Gwen of Altus, Jerrel Barker of Oakland, California, Linda Walker of Altus, and Glen Barker and wife Cynthia of Oklahoma City; and one granddaughter. | GLEN BRAKER Emory Glen Braker was born November 5, 1937 in Olustee, Oklahoma. Glen was the youngest child of Duel and Mabel (Myers) Braker. The Braker Family made their home southeast of Eldorado. Glen attended Eldorado Schools and was a 1956 graduate of EHS, where he actively participated in sports, 4H and FFA. Glen and Betty Wilson were married on May 23, 1959 in Eldorado, OK. To this union was born Randy Joe, Wendy Gay and Jimmy Craig. Later the family was completed by Alyson Jon, Rebecca Lynn and April Dawn. Growing up in southwestern Jackson County was a source of pride to Glen. He loved Eldorado and was an avid supporter of Eldorado Schools. Glen believed that the school is the foundation on which this community stands. Braker actively mentored to the youth of the area by donating show animals, helping with the feeding and teaching youngsters how to care for their projects. Eldorado 4H and FFA were two of his passions. A sports enthusiast, the Atlanta Braves, Dallas Cowboys and the L.A. Lakers were his teams. He was especially happy when his kids and grandkids were there to cheer them on. Glen had a passion for making others happy one of the ways he obtained that joy was from cooking. He and his cowboy buddies have served this area thousands of pounds of delicious barbeque. He supported his family by working in the oil fields, farming, ranching, trucking, race horses, custom combining and various other self owned businesses. Glen retired in 2008 from Jackson County, District 3; his latest business venture was “That Little Place in Eldorado”. Glen was active with the Eldorado Riding Club, the Quanah Riding Club and the Jackson County Riding Club. He had recently refurbished one of his buggies and acquired another. He loved to show them off at the local parades. Baptized in 1952, Glen was a member of the Eldorado Church of Christ and also enjoyed attending worship services at SouthWest Cowboy Church in Altus. Glen was diagnosed on May 18, 2009 with pancreatic cancer that had spread to his liver. In the weeks following, he had undergone chemotherapy. Determined to fight for the life he loved and the arrival of his first two great grandchildren, he succumbed to his illness Sunday, July 5, 2009 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Glen leaves behind the broken hearts of those who adored him, his wife, Joan, of the home; Randy Joe Braker, Eldorado and his children, Chad and Celeste Braker, Pitchfork Ranch, Guthrie, TX and Grant (who is in Kuwait) and Samantha Braker, Altus; Wendy and Steve Williams and daughters, Jonna and Michele, Quanah, TX; Jimmy Braker and children, Craig and Kennedy, Quanah, TX; Rebecca and Haden Braziel and daughters, Konner and Bailey, Quanah, TX; Alyson Braker and sons, Marcus and Mayson Leija, Eldorado; April and Buddy Altom and Mykenzie, Altus; stepson, Trevin Gillam, Eldorado; his former wife, Betty Braker, Eldorado; sister, Venita Jo (Braker) and Murel Smith, Douglas, AZ; brother, Dr. Clifton (Pete) and Sherry Braker, West Fork, AR; his aunt Eula (Braker) Williams, Eldorado and two loving puppies, Mindy and Rendie of the home. | Bailey Joseph Lee Bailey, 76, of Headrick, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Joe was born December 27, 1932, in Nashville, Kansas to James and Cora (Newberry) Bailey. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955. Joe married Mildred Cain in 1960 in Eufaula, Oklahoma. They moved to Headrick shortly after their marriage and raised their family in a loving environment. Joe worked in Civil Service in the C.E. Division at Altus Air Force Base for twenty-two years. He was also a licensed real estate agent, licensed fire investigator, and worked for the Headrick Water Department. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #62 in Altus and was also a member of the Full Gospel Church. He loved fishing and spending time with his animals. Joe is survived by his wife, Mildred Bailey, of the home in Headrick; a son, Joe Lynn Bailey and wife Gaylynn of Harrah, Oklahoma; two daughters, Tammy Bailey and husband Geno Diaz of Plano, Texas, and Melissa Bryant of New Iberia, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Michael Beach, Billy Beach, Corporal Jeremy Lee Diaz and wife Jessica, and Nanci Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Jaxen Walker Diaz, Jenna Jaymes Diaz, Elijah Johnson, Ethan Johnson, and Aubrey Lewis; three sisters, Barbara Hawkins, Betty Dirks, and Bonnie Bailey; one brother, John Bailey, and a very special friend, Jane Tomkinson.
