| Janet W. Cannady Janet W. Cannady, born April 9, 1935, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Fred and Josephine White, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Janet is survived by her loving husband, Donald Wayne, her high school sweetheart with whom she was joyfully reunited with after 53 years; her four proud children, Cheryl Milloy, Eric Dawley, Marc Dawley and Karen Schofield; her two dear brothers and sister, Houston White, Joe Fred White and Charlotte Schroeter; her five treasured grandchildren, Jeffrey Milloy, Jamie Milloy, Travis Dawley, Elaine Dawley, and Dana Schofield; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Bridget. Janet was an extraordinary mother who shared her love of reading and music with her children; a legacy that has been passed on to her grandchildren. Janet had a beautiful voice and sang in choirs from an early age, including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Janet graduated from Granite High School in 1953, and attended Oklahoma East Central University. Her banking and human resources career brought her to DART where she retired in 2000. | Margaret Gay “Peggy” Corley Margaret Gay “Peggy” Corley, age 59 passed away Thursday, June 15, 2006, at her home in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was born January 15, 1947, to O.L. (Bill) and Jacquelyn (Pierot) Corley in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Peggy attended grade school in Waurika, Oklahoma and Graham Texas. She graduated from Durant High School and attended Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas and the Baptist Student Union. Peggy made a profession of faith and was baptized and joined the church at the age of nine. Later as an adult, she felt that she needed to make a recommitment, in which she did; though she was handicapped at times by health problems, she enjoyed being involved in God’s work and participated to the extent that she was able. She was and out going person who loved people. She had a beautiful singing voice. Peggy and her sister Carol were a duet who performed often for various occasions. She is preceded in death by her father, Bill Corley and her grandparents. Peggy is survived by her mother, Jacquelyn Corley, of Altus, brother, Robert (Bob) Corley, of Oklahoma City, and sister, Carol Corley of Des Moines, Iowa and two nieces and many friends. | Conrad Judy May (Wilson) Conrad, 61, returned to the Lord Sunday, September 3rd, 2006. Judy was born May 1st, 1945, in Altus, OK to Cecil Ray & Bessie May (Kennemer) Wilson. She attended school in Altus, Ardmore and Guymon OK. Judy also attended school in El Segundo, CA. Returning to Altus in 1961, Judy met and fell madly in love with Joe Earl Conrad. They married six months later, November 4th, 1961 at the First United Methodist Church in Tipton, OK. Judy and Joe have owned and operated Joe Conrad Plumbing Company in Altus since 1972. In 1974 they transferred their church membership to the First United Methodist Church in Altus. Judy was a woman of many talents. There wasn't a craft or art form she didn't try. Cooking, sewing, painting, crochet, macramé, ceramics and many more. Once she knew it and knew it well, she was on to her next adventure in learning. Many area children knew her as Aunt Judy through the home day care she operated from 1973 to 1982. Judy taught a 3rd & 4th grade Sunday school class in the early 80s. Once her children were all in school, she became a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Altus. She later became postal clerk in Blair, OK, where she remained until retirement. Her entire family -- sisters, children, nieces, nephews and a whole host of teenagers -- will never forget the time they spent with her, staying up all night playing 45 records. Judy taught us all how to dance, and that it didn't matter how well we sung (or how badly) the point was to sing and dance until we felt it deep within our souls. Judy May was a woman full of love who was loved by many. Welcoming her into the Kingdom were her parents, a sister, Phyllis Allen, and her only son, Thomas Don Conrad. She is survived by her husband Joe of the home, three daughters; Tracy Lorah and her husband Jeff of Altus, Tammy Nucci & her husband Robert of Choctaw, OK and Jeri Lyn Drury and her husband Brent of Olustee; sisters Gloria Jean Cline and her husband Dayton of Eva, OK, Tina Joy Hankins and her husband Joe of Altus; eight grandchildren: Justin Lorah, Brodee Nucci, Joshua Lorah, Bradyn Nucci, Jessica Lorah, Cade Drury, Elijah Drury and Saylor Grace Drury. She is also survived by much-loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends and family. The family will receive visitors at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00pm. | Rosie May Cornelison Rosie May Cornelison age 91 of Headrick, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at English Village Manor in Altus. She was born August 26, 1914 in Inville, Oklahoma to Walter and Lou Cindy (Brown) Johnson. On June 3, 1939 Rosie and Arnold J. Cornelison were united in marriage. He preceded her in death February 19, 1994. Rosie had lived in the Headrick community for many years. She enjoyed being outdoors, working in her yard and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Headrick. She is survived by one daughter, Wanda Sue, one brother A. C. Johnson and wife Betty of Dill City, Oklahoma; one great-grandson Greg Cornelison of Headrick, Oklahoma and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, six brothers and one grandson. | Bill F. Craig Billy Fred Craig (Tobe) was born to Fred and Ethel Craig, September 6, 1927 in Ravia, Oklahoma. They moved to Pauls Valley when Bill was a baby. He went to school in Pauls Valley where he played football. Bill joined the army after high school, serving from 1946 to 1948. He married Bernyce Reeves January, 1950. They had three children, Debbie and her husband Jim Stout of Altus, Brent and Nancy Craig of Irving, Texas and Becky and her husband Dennis Chisum of Valley View, Texas. Mr. Craig worked for Wackers variety stores, moving to Altus in 1969. Bill was active in the Salvation Army, and was an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was very active in all church activities. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Betty Craig and granddaughter, Lori Kay Stout. He is survived by his wife Bernyce of the home, their children and grandchildren; Jamie and Barry Wilkins, Craig and Sarah Stout, Courtney and Rob Wallace, Douglas Craig, Philip Craig, Nichole Craig, Billy and Jami Chisum, Dylan Chisum, and two great-grandchildren, Destiny and Trinity Chisum, three brothers; Jack, Ted and Dick Craig, and four sisters, Virginia, Boots, Nancy and Bert. | CROWLEY A C Crowley, age 73 of Altus, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2006 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. A C was born to Elder Judge and Mrs. Olla Crowley on August 28, 1932 in Altus. A life long Altus resident, A C attended Lincoln School and the Church of God in Christ. As a teenager he would drive for his father as he pastored and preached in many cities. In 1953, he and Ginger C. Jackson were united in marriage. To this union six children were born. A C worked for the Altus Compress for many years. He then became a firefighter with the Altus Fire Department where he worked for twenty-five years. After retirement from the fire department, he began working for the Altus Public School System where he was currently working. For the last three years he has pastored Holy Revival Center Church. Some of his favorite scriptures were 2 Corinthians 6:17: Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. Philippians 1:21: For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain. His favorite songs were: Satan I Put you Out, I Can’t Make It Not One Moment Without the Lord and I Know the Bible is Right as Somebody is Wrong. He departed this life Sunday, January 29, 2006 after singing and ministering with his last favorite song, I Know the Bible is Right. A C was preceded in death by his parents, ten brothers and sisters, and one son, Alfred Crowley. He leaves to morn, his wife, Ginger of the home, four sons, Hugh and Vivian of Oklahoma City, Barry and Rennia of Shawnee, Jerome Kevin of Nacoma Park and Noel of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Rhonda Bonner of San Antonio, Texas; raised as daughters, (three grandchildren) Anita Crowley of Raleigh, North Carolina, Tiffany and Tyrone Riouse of Tulsa, Olivia Bonner of the home, Marquis Crowley (grandson) of Chickasha, DyNasea Crowley (great granddaughters) of the home and Asakia Crowley of the home. | Loyde Hampton Colson Loyde Hampton Colson, 84, of Hollis, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 9, 2006. Loyde was born July 28, 1922, in Wellington, Texas, to Avo (Cook) and Willie Allen Colson. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1941. He entered the United States Army following graduation, and he served his country during World War II. He was wounded in battle at St. Lo, France, on August 12, 1944. Loyde received a marksmanship medal and the Purple Heart award for his service. Loyde married Betty Pearl Hays on December 24, 1946, in Wellington, Texas. They raised four children and shared 59 wonderful years together. He farmed for several years in Harmon County, and he was custodian at Gould School for a time. Loyde was well known for his expertise in contract concrete work. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church were he served as treasurer for 17 years. Loyde liked gardening, fishing, remodeling his home, and most of all spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Betty Colson of the home in Hollis; two sons, Loyd A. Colson and wife Carol, and Allen Colson and wife Rhonda, all of Hollis; two daughters, Lynda Ramsey of Hollis and Verona Robinson and husband Larry Ted of Gould. Loyde is also survived by his wonderful grandchildren, Cara McGee and husband Gary, Rusty Colson and wife Nora, Tara Johnson and husband Jim, Bryan Ramsey and wife Lora, Chad Robinson and wife Ashley, Jerimy Colson and wife Beverly, April Dill and husband Craig, Mark Robinson and wife Danna, Jaime Colson, and K.C. Ramsey and wife Cindy; great-grandchildren Candra, Cole, and Cami McGee, Brittany, Landon, and Raymond Ramsey, Magdalen Johnson, Blakely and Bryson Dill, Rustin and Ashtin Colson, and Taylor, Marlie, and Morgan Robinson. He is also survived by his sister, Velma Rainey of Wellington, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. | Crume Jimmie C. Crume, 88, of Eldorado, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2006, at the Ayers Nursing Home in Snyder, Oklahoma. Jimmie was born May 30, 1918, in the Eldorado area to John Isaac and Cora Elizabeth (Conway) Crume. He came from a large family of nine children and they were all very close. Jimmie was raised in Eldorado and attended Lincoln School before its closing. He then attended Eldorado High School for a few years, where he graduated in 1937. He attended college in eastern New Mexico for two years. Jimmie served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp as a Master Sergeant. He then married Eva Lucille Grimes on November 19, 1945, in Mangum, Oklahoma. He farmed in Jackson County all his adult life. Jimmie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eldorado. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eva in 1998, and all his brothers and sisters, Jimmie is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis C. and Janice Crume of Granite, Oklahoma; one daughter, Linda Kay Crume of Herndon, Virginia; four grandchildren, Leslie Perry and husband Brian of Mountain Park, Oklahoma, Casey Crume and wife Stephanie of Snyder, Oklahoma, Zachary Crume, also of Snyder, and Mariel Barnes and husband Jim of Herndon, Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Cayden Crume, Sara Crume, both of Snyder, and Alexis Perry and Brett Perry, both of Mountain Park, many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. | CANTRELL Bonnie Carrigan Whitehead Cantrell, age 93 of Altus, passed away early Saturday morning, January 7, 2007, at Plantation Care Center in Altus. Mrs. Cantrell was born on January 4, 1914, in Frazer, Kentucky to Jack and Lenora (Hollars) Carrigan. She married Henry Cleo Whitehead on July 20, 1935, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Later they moved to Tipton where they were engaged in farming and both of their daughters were born there. Moving to Davidson, Oklahoma to farm, they later moved to Pecos, Texas where Cleo worked in the oil field. During the war, Cleo worked for Civil Service a short time in defense plants in Illinois and Neosho, Missouri. They lived in Frederick for a brief time before moving back to Tipton and then to Hess where they farmed. Later they moved to Friendship to farm and Cleo worked at Altus Air Force Base. While living in the Friendship community they were foster parents to twelve children and were members of the Friendship Methodist Church where Bonnie taught Sunday school. Cleo passed away on November 21, 1968. In 1978, Bonnie moved to Altus and married James O. Cantrell on January 24, 1979. Her marriage to James blessed her with two sons, a daughter and their families. They attended the Friendship Methodist Church and later joined The First Assembly of God Church after the Methodist Church disbanded. Bonnie was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. For approximately six years, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Hess and while living there she was cared for by JCMH Home Care and JCMH Hospice. She attended Hess Baptist Church while living there and moved to Plantation Village in January of 2005. Bonnie loved the Lord, family, friends, nature, bird watching, yard work, keeping her home and decorating for holidays. Above all, Bonnie’s favorite thing in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were very special to her. | Chavez Juan Manuel Chavez, 45, of Tipton, passed away Monday, January 22, 2007, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus. Juan was born May 21, 1961, in Poteet, Texas, to Ramon and Maria (Herrera) Chavez. He graduated from Tipton High School in 1979. Juan worked for the Slagle Factory in Frederick for thirteen years. He worked for the State of Oklahoma as a guard for the Oklahoma Juvenile Affairs in Manitou, Oklahoma, for the past 2 ½ years. He loved Oklahoma football and his passion was hunting with rifles and bows and arrows. He was a true nature lover and was very close to his family. Preceded in death by his mother, Maria Chavez and a brother, Arcadio Chavez, Juan is survived by his father, Ramon Chavez of Tipton; five brothers, Adolfo Chavez, Pedro Chavez, both of Tipton, Roberto Chavez of Lubbock, Texas, Ramon Chavez, Jr., and Gregorio Chavez, also of Tipton; two sisters, Esperanza Chavez and Margarita Chavez, also of Tipton; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. | CASTILLO Mary Magdeline Castillo, age 51, formerly of Frederick, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2007, at Mangum Community Hospital. Mary was born on November 28, 1955, in Austin, Texas to Demetrio Ramirez and Reyes (Pena) Aguilar. Moving to the Frederick area in the early 1970’s, Mary worked for many years as a material cutter for OK1 Manufacturing and moved to Mangum in January of 2007. | CASWELL Margie Betty Davis Caswell, age 78, formerly of Altus, died on Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at her home in Oklahoma City. Betty was born in Duke, Oklahoma, on March 13, 1928, to Fred and Alma (Butcher) Davis. She attended Duke High School. She lived in Wichita, Kansas for many years, where she was employed as an expeditor at Cessna Aircraft. In 1969, she moved to Altus, Oklahoma to care for her aging parents. While in Altus, she was a long- time employee of Kellwood Company, where she made lasting friendships. She lived in Oklahoma City for the last ten years. Her favorite recreation was shopping for friends and family and she enjoyed all of the Oklahoma City malls. For the last year, she lived at Town Village in Oklahoma City, where she enjoyed playing bridge and made many new friends. Despite suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for the last twenty-five years, she remained very active with her family and in her community. She retained her great strength, sense of humor, and positive outlook on life, her favorite quote being “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” She treasured her family, and was always there for her children and grandchildren both in good times and bad. She was their greatest supporter, comforter and friend. She was well-loved by everyone who knew her, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. | MARGIE CARTER Margie (Goyen) Carter, age 80, a longtime resident of Sentinel, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2007 in Cordell. Margie was born on December 10, 1926 in Seiling, Oklahoma to Lee and Grace (Sander) Goyen. She started her education at Deep Creek School, and then graduated from Seiling High School and attended the University of Oklahoma. She worked at the Seiling Hardware Store and that is when she met John. Margie married John W. Carter, DPh on February 4, 1950 in Canton, Oklahoma and they were married for over 57 years before her death. From this union, they had one daughter, Tricia. Margie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sentinel and was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was also a Girl Scout Leader. Margie and John were co-owner/operators of the Carter Rexall Drug since 1965. She was very devoted in helping run and keeping the store going. She enjoyed the everyday activities of people coming in the store and serving drinks to the customers. Margie liked getting out in the sunshine and riding around in the truck. She started everyday out by reading the funnies and her husband and daughter always enjoyed Margie’s bright and energetic start to each day. She liked to keep in touch with her relatives and always enjoyed family gatherings. Margie always said, “Do The Best You Can!” She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, and friend and will be missed greatly. Preceding Margie in death were her parents, Lee and Grace Goyen and one brother, Wilferd Goyen. Margie is survived by her husband, John W. Carter, DPh of the home; one daughter, Tricia Carter of Houston, Texas; one niece, Artalea; two nephews, Monte and Galen; and numerous other relatives and many friends. Services for Margie Carter will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, February 26 at the United Methodist Church of Sentinel with Reverend Norman Wasson officiating. | Irene Cole Irene Cole, 91, of Hollis, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis. Irene was born September 15, 1915, in Davidson, Oklahoma, to Bruce M. and Ada (Stiles) Owens. She attended Cooper Creek School near Denton, Texas, and was raised in that area until she turned 19. She moved to Hollis where she met her future husband, Cline Cole. They married November 9, 1935, in Hollis. She owned and operated Irene’s Café for over 35 years in Hollis. Upon retirement, she loved spending time shopping with her sister, Ruth Christian. She was especially fond of attending her grandchildren’s school activities. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Robinson, of Hollis; two grandsons, Craig Robinson of Hollis and Alan Robinson of Elk City, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Cindy Cornett of Cordell, Oklahoma; one great-grandson, Jeffery Cornett, also of Cordell; one sister, Ruth Christian of Hollis; two brothers, Marvin Owens and wife Sis of Lewisville, Texas, and Bruce Owens and wife Lorene of Odessa, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Dwain Christian and wife Shirley of Hollis. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cline Cole December 12, 1988; one son, Dr. Darwin L. Cole October 14, 1990; a son-in-law, John Robinson April 1, 2003, and an infant daughter. | Virginia Imojean Carter Virginia Imojean (Chambers) Carter was born May 24, 1921, in Tipton, Oklahoma to Robert Houston and Iola Parks Chambers. She attended public schools in Tipton graduating in 1939. She played both the piano and the saxophone and always loved music. She attended Abilene Christian College one year but left college studies to help with the war effort by working in Dallas at North American Aircraft. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Gwynn Carter, March 5,1944. They had three children, James. R. Carter Jerry G. Carter, and Karen (Carter) Redelsperger. They lived in Hollis from 1945 to 1992 and were members of the Hollis Church of Christ. They moved to Altus in 1992. She lived in Grapevine, Texas from 1995 until 1999. She was a member of the Grapevine Church of Christ. She then moved to English Village in February 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gwynn Carter in 1995, her parents, and her grandson, Jim Bob Redelsperger in 2000. She is survived by her children, James R. Carter and wife Wanda of Southlake, Texas, Jerry G. Carter and wife Linda of Southlake, Texas, and daughter Karen Redelsperger and husband John of Altus; grandchildren Jon Paul Redelsperger and wife Tana of Enid, Oklahoma, Jay Redelsperger of Napa, CA, Joe Don Redelsperger of Altus, Lauren and Kristen Carter of Southlake, Texas, Amy Hilliard of Southlake, Texas, and Jeni Hilliard-Holberg of Cedar Hill, Texas. | Charles Polk Crozier Charles Polk Crozier, 90, of Eldorado, passed away at his home Sunday, April 29, 2007. Polk was born December 25, 1916, in Cane Hill, Arkansas, to Charlie Frank and Nancy Louise (Icenogle) Crozier. In his teen years, he attended school in Sentinel, Oklahoma. Polk served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He came home after the war and married Dorothy Jo Richeson June 23, 1946, in Quanah, Texas. They lived in Harmon County where they farmed for over 50 years. He and Dorothy moved to Eldorado in 1975 where he was fondly remembered as an excellent carpenter. He enjoyed being involved in many building projects including helping build the baptistery in the First Baptist Church in Eldorado. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Crozier, of the home; three children, Jimmy Crozier and wife Kathy of Eldorado, Linda Diane Ned, also of Eldorado, and Debbie Crozier of Colusa, California; one brother, Barton Crozier and wife Floy of Lovington, New Mexico; one sister, Louise Carte of Lincoln, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Jaycie Smith and husband Chris of Altus, Maycie Crozier of Oklahoma City, Melanie Crozier and Melissa Newman, both of Denton, Texas, Debbie Stephens of Eldorado, Jennifer White of Oklahoma City, Emily Wright of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Lynda Carrell and husband Cary of Olustee, Luke Kerr and wife Jennifer of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Monica Crozier of Colusa, California. Dale Clement Dale Clement, 70, of Hollis, passed away Friday, June 22, 2007, at Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis. Dale was born January 15, 1937, in Bowie, Texas, to C.T. and Oneida (Stout) Clement. He attended Hollis Public Schools and at an early age started working for Oscar Bryant. He was always a hard worker and learned to drive a tractor at the age of 12. Dale worked as the Superintendent of Line Operation for Rural Electric Cooperative for 31 years. His passion as a volunteer firefighter for the Hollis Fire Department was well known by the community of Hollis. He retired after 20 years of faithful service. Dale worked at the Hollis Car Care Center where he helped his daughter and son-in-law run the business for several years. In 2002, Dale started working for Harmon Memorial Hospital as the maintenance supervisor where he was currently employed. He was a member of the American Legion and the First Baptist Church in Hollis. Dale and Deanne (Bell) were united in marriage December 25, 1981, in Hollis. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Deanne Clement of the home in Hollis; nine children, Judy Murphy and husband Richard of Washington, D.C., Joe Dale Clement of Oklahoma City, Alice Manney and husband David of Altus, Hazel Elder and husband Don of Luther, Oklahoma, Tammie Wallace and husband Steve of Aline, Oklahoma, Donna Hudspeth and husband W.J. of Hollis, Major T.J. | CARRELL Mildred (Midge) Letha Carrell, age 89, formerly of Olustee, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2007, at the Universal Hospice and Pallative Care Center in Ft. Worth, Texas. Midge was born on May 5, 1918, in Olustee, to Rufus Oliver and Laura F. (Staley) Weems. She attended Harmony School and quit at an early age, then later completed her high school degree during her fifties at Olustee School. On April 16, 1938, she married Frank Carrell at Olustee. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1984, after forty-five years of marriage. A great seamstress and cook, Midge was known for quilting quilts and crocheting different items to give to her family and friends as gifts. A loving mother and grandmother, she was involved in all activities that included her children and grandchildren. Midge was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Ester McRee, Emma Watts, Odie Mundell and Ida Rosser. She is survived by four children, Carlos Carrell and wife Charlyn of Olustee, James (Cotton) Carrell and wife Lynda of Harrison, Arkansas, Sue Burnett and husband Jerry of Joshua, Texas and Trena Jones of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; one sister, Wilma Crutchfield of Amarillo, Texas; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two special friends, Dr. Martin Hullender and Norma Johnston and many other relatives and friends. | Cecil Cummins Cecil Cummins, 87, of Hollis, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007, at Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis. Cecil was born September 2, 1920, in Hollis, Oklahoma, to Robert and Lola (Garton) Cummins. He graduated from LaCasa High School in Harmon County in 1939. He was on the LaCasa Outsider baseball and softball teams and was an excellent athlete. Cecil served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1946 in England during the Blitz. Cecil married Lucille Warren July 19, 1941, in Pea Ridge, Arkansas. She preceded him in death December 25, 1998. Cecil owned and operated Home Lumber Company in Hollis until 1972. After selling his business, he stayed busy with carpenter work. He loved to fish and was fond of making his family “backyard fish fries.” Cecil was known all over Hollis for making and giving away clocks mounted on wooden bases and other handcrafts. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and loved playing hymns on his harmonica for the special music in church services. Cecil is survived by three children, one son, David Cummins and wife Marsha of Hollis, Dee Ann Rippetoe and husband Tony of Waukomis, Oklahoma, and Lisa Peterson and husband Mark of Great Bend, Kansas; four grandchildren, Tracy Irwin, Toby Rippetoe, Kaci Rippetoe, and Taylor Libby; four great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; two brothers, John Cummins and Troy Cummins; four sisters, Naomi Fuller, Sue Jordan, Marzelle Perkins, and Gayle Smith; and his special companion for the past several years, Mary Bartlett of Hollis. | Nina Chavez Nina Jean Chavez, 61, of Altus, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at English Village Nursing Home in Altus. Nina was born June 3, 1946, in Jenks, Oklahoma, to Eugene and Eunice (Autrey) Frailey. She attended school in Jenks, Oklahoma, and later traveled extensively with her mother all over the United States. She lived in several towns in Oklahoma and moved to Altus with her two children in the 1960’s. Nina had several jobs in the Altus through the years and was employed by the Altus Cab Company until about four years ago. Her favorite hobbies were traveling, cooking, and seeing the ocean. Preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Renae Frailey in 1990, Nina is survived by one son, Richard Frailey and wife Julie of Altus; one granddaughter, Felicia Frailey of Altus; and one grandson, Montana Ray Frailey, also of Altus. | Lois Ola Canada Lois Ola Canada, age 98 passed away Friday December 21,2007 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She was born March 13,1909 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to Dovie Lee Nix and Charlie Jackson Nix. In August of 1941 in Elmer,Oklahoma Lois and Welton Cecil Canada were united in marriage. He preceded her in death. Lois worked at several dress shops and Greens Jewelry Store in Altus before she retired. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, loved to fish and enjoyed taking walks with her dog “Butch.” Lois was a charter member of the Southside Baptist Church in Altus. She is survived by one daughter, Ann Graham and husband Herman of Altus, Oklahoma; one son Jerry Canada of Lawton, Oklahoma; one sister Imogene Buckman and husband Robert of Kansas City, Kansas, one brother Claude Nix and wife Maria of Semi Valley, California. | Orene Caswell Orene Caswell, 89, of Weatherford, formerly of Hollis, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Weatherford Regional Hospital in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Orene was born August 15, 1918, in Harmon County, Oklahoma, to John and Ola Mae (King) Orr. Orene was the youngest of eight children. She attended school at O.M., Vinson, and graduated from Arnett. She married Dewey Caswell April 23, 1937, at the Greer County courthouse in Mangum. Orene and Dewey were members of Antioch Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church of Hollis. Orene had one daughter, Pamela Kay, and was a devoted wife and mother. She worked at many of the fabric and clothing stores in Hollis over the years. She loved working with the public and formed many friendships. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing for family and friends, especially her great- granddaughters. Orene truly loved serving the Lord and taught Sunday school classes for over fifty years at First Baptist Church where she loved watching the children grow. In later years, she enjoyed fellowship with the ladies’ classes of the church. After Dewey’s passing, Orene moved to Weatherford to be near her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She often attended First Baptist Church in Weatherford and services at Weatherford Living Center, where she lived. Orene continued to keep in touch with Hollis friends. Orene’s love and kindness will always be remembered. Orene is survived by two grandsons, Mike Walkup and wife Lauren, of Weatherford, and John Walkup of Oklahoma City; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Michelle, and Morgan Walkup, all of Weatherford; and many nieces and nephews. Orene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dewey in 2003; their daughter, Pam; three sisters, LaVelle, Ola Mae, and Odessa; and four brothers, Joel, Vancil, Varner, and Johnny. | Ruby P. Chaffin Ruby Pearl (Reives) Chaffin, age, 80, of Altus, passed away Monday, February 25, 2008, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus. Ruby was born July 10, 1927, in Detroit, Texas, to Jim and Gladys (Davis) Reives. She married Tom Wilson in 1945. She later married Frank Lovett in 1954 and he preceded her in death. Ruby married Edward Chaffin November 19, 1994, in Sayre, Oklahoma, and they made their home in Altus. Ruby is survived by her husband, Edward Chaffin of Altus; six children, Jim Lovett and wife Brandy, and Tom (T.J.) Luton and wife Mary, all of Seligman, Missouri, Betty Harter and husband Ray of Norwich, New York, Bobby Kazzar of Germany, Charles Beavers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Charlotte Chappel and husband Phillip of Texas; grandchildren including Michelle, Micheal, Shane, Frank and wife Amy, Stacie, and Nickalaus; great-grandchildren including Dylan, Christian, Caitlyn, Brock, Zachary, Chelsey, and Hailey. One brother, James Mills, and a nephew, Jamie Mills, both of Altus, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, two children, Jerry McDowell and Roberta (Lovett) Maddox, her husbands, Thomas Wilson and Frank Lovett, and other loved ones. Ruby was a wonderful, loving lady who had many talents. She loved to be in the company of those who were special to her. She will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew her well. | David Michael Cowley David Michael Cowley died unexpectedly at his home in Altus, Oklahoma on Saturday, March 1, 2008. He was 46 years old. David the elder son of Thomas G. Cowley and Rosemarie (Koenig) Cowley, was born in Rochester, New York at St. Marys Hospital on July 1, 1961. He attended schools in Ames, Iowa until the family’s move to Ponca City in 1967. He attended Ponca City Senior High and graduated in May of 1979. His interest throughout his growing up years included hunting, fishing, taxidermy, wild life preservation, creative writing and wildlife photography. He carried these passions with him throughout his life. He began his lifelong involvement with Ducks Unlimited at this time. Upon graduation from high school, David worked at an assortment of jobs and traveled extensively. He then settled in his home town of Ponca City and was exployed as a technician in the research of development division of Conoco, Inc. He later moved to Lubbock, Texas where he worked as a successful taxidermist whose work was in demand by bird hunters from around the country. He received many awards for his work locally,regionally, and nationally. In 1990 David began writing for the American Taxidermist magazine and continued this until his death. In 2003 he moved to Altus and married Gloria Montelongo on September 22,2003. David continued his work in taxidermy through a company in Oklahoma City while remaining in Altus, and then opened his own shop in his home. David was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Emil and Gladys Koenig, and paternal grandparents, William and Doris Cowley. He is survived by his wife Gloria, his mother, Rosemarie Fraites, his parents, Tom and Linda Cowley; grandparents, Ora and Helen Hiskett; his brothers Dan Cowley and Matthew Cowley; his sons Benjamin Page of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Joseph Motley of Oklahoma City; and his god-parents Karen Johnson and Michael Cowley; and numerous aunts,uncles, and cousins. Vicki was born August 20, 1959, in Garden City, Kansas, to George W. and Corrine Kay (Wince) Baxter. She graduated from high school in Garden City in 1977. During her teenage years, she worked for her parents as a cook and waitress in their restaurants in Garden City. Vicki married Allen Dean Clanton November 22, 1979, in Garden City, and they later moved to Clinton, Oklahoma. They moved to Altus in 2000, where Dean was employed by Rick’s Lawn Sprinklers. He preceded Vicki in death November 26, 2003. | John Gregory Cline John Gregory Cline, age 22, formerly of Headrick, Oklahoma died from injuries resulting from an automobile accident near Abilene, Texas, Monday, April 1, 2008. He was born January 9, 1986 in Amarillo, Texas to Raylynn (Dillman) Cline and John Norman Cline.. Greg attended the Altus Public School System and graduated from Altus High School in 2004. He served in the United States Military from September 2005 until April 2007. He was a C130 chief mechanic. After moving from Headrick he made his home in Abilene, Texas. Greg had worked for FB’s Welding in Altus, Can-Doo Budge Rentals and Longbow Bullet Factory. He enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors; especially hunting, fishing, riding ATV’s and hanging out with his friends. Greg is survived by his father Johnny Cline of Headrick, Oklahoma; three sisters; Shay Meece of Yukon,Oklahoma, Lacey Shelton of Amarillo, Texas, and Jessica Cline of Abiline Texas; one brother Levi Cline of Headrick, Oklahoma. | Lou Ann (McGirt) Cervantes Lou Ann Cervantes, age 49, of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Monday, April 21, 2008 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital surrounded by friends and family after a long illness of cancer and diabetes. She was born November 11, 1958 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Jimmie and Flora (Johnson) McGirt. She graduated from Wewoka High School. On April 24, 1984 in Altus, Oklahoma Lou Ann married Raul Cervantes. She worked at various jobs throughout her life, most recently at Wal-Mart in Altus as a cashier. Lou Ann is survived by her father Jimmie McGirt, of Wewoka, Oklahoma husband; Raul Cervantes of Altus, three sons; Gavin McGirt, Damien McGirt, and Antonio Cervantes, all of Altus Oklahoma; six brothers: Bobby McGirt of Holdenville Oklahoma, Roland McGirt of Glenrose, Texas, Paul McGirt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Randy McGirt of Ada, Oklahoma, Anthony McGirt of Wewoka, Oklahoma, and Reginald McGirt, of Louisiana; three sisters: Wynette Wildcat, Seminole, Oklahoma, Shirley Tiger, of Oklahoma City Oklahoma, and Sally Davis of Ft. Smith Arkansas. She is also survived by other relatives and a host of many friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Flora McGirt in April, 1985; mother-in-law Marcelina Cervantes of Cervantes, Mexico, father-in-law Benjamin Cervantes of Cervantes, Mexico, and niece Melinda Mae McGirt. Funeral services for Lou Ann Cevantes are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 at New Hope Church interment to follow at the McGirt Family Cemetery in Sasakwa, Oklahoma.
