KING

Willie Morris King, age 90, of Altus, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, with his
family at his side.

He was born on January 14, 1917, at Lone Wolf, Oklahoma.  He was a resident of Lugert, Oklahoma before the
creation of Lake Altus.  Willie was the son of Enoch and Della (Gibbons) King, early inhabitants of southwest
Oklahoma.

Mr. King was the first selective service volunteer from Jackson County prior to WWII.  He entered the service on
November 23, 1940, and sailed for Europe in October of 1941, as a member of the 15th Field Artillery.  He
remained in the European Theater of Operations until the end of the war.  He received five battle stars for his
participation in actions during the invasion of Normandy Beach and at the battles of Heartbreak Crossroads,
Ardenne, Brest and the Battle of the Bulge.  A few years ago, the Altus Times honored Willie on Veterans Day
for being the first selective service registrant and he was taken to the train depot on a fire truck amid a parade.

Willie was a member and deacon of the Friendship Baptist Church, faithful choir member and a great lover of
music.  His greatest love was his family and he will always be remembered as that hero all of us need in life to
keep the faith.  He was a man who never had an unkind word to say to or about anyone and we will all miss his
example.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Andrew King, and a sister, Bertha Bleu.  He is survived
by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Wilma King; two sons, Maurice and wife Kathy of Altus and Ralph and wife
Dolores of Fairview, Texas; two daughters, Marcia Brian and husband Richard of Altus, and Glenda Bram and
husband Rich of Altus; one sister, Ora Rogers of Clovis, New Mexico; fourteen grandchildren, Melissa and David
Hagen, Altus, Kara and Michael Falen, Edmond, Mollie King, Altus, Shannon and Debbie King, Plano, Texas,
Toby and Kim King, Oklahoma City, Whitney King, Dallas, Texas, Kim Brian, Altus, Angie and Ted Lawson,
Altus, Riccia and Erick Thomas, Pennsacola, Florida, Rick Brian, Altus, Steve and Angela Brian, Altus, Brent
and Sarah Brian, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jennifer Marble, Oklahoma City and Chad and Leslie Marble,
Newcastle, Oklahoma; sixteen great grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren and many other relatives
and friends.

Funeral services for Willie King will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Ted Savage, Willie’s brother-in-law, officiating.  Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery
under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

KARR

Betty Karr, age 86, of Dripping Springs, Texas, formerly of Altus, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2007, at Hill
Country Care Center.  

Mrs. Karr was born on May 1, 1921, in Altus, to Herman and Marie (Mansur) Talkington.  A graduate of Altus
High School, Betty attended the University of Oklahoma, studied Drama and taught many years in the Altus
School System as a substitute teacher.   Betty married Al Karr on May 2, 1942, in Mangum, Oklahoma and they
spent fifty-seven wonderful years together before his death on May 8, 1999.  A long-time member of the
Thomas Street Church of Christ, Betty was also very active in the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the American Legion Post
in Altus.  She held the office of Auxiliary Department President in Oklahoma from 1976-1977.  Her particular
passion was assisting in Girls State and advocating for war veterans.  During her lifetime she enjoyed camping,
fishing, hiking, boating and riding horses, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family whom she
dearly loved.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Al and one brother, George Talkington, she is survived by four
children, Albert Henry (Hank) Karr, Jr. and wife Dee Ann of Altus, Jesse Karr of Oklahoma City, Karmen Willis
and husband Gawain of Robertsville, Missouri and Kathy Boydston and husband Glenn of Dripping Springs,
Texas; six grandchildren, Albert Henry (Bert) Karr, III of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Cyndi Arbuckle of Haslett,
Texas, Kris Andrews of Keithsville, Louisiana, Matt Willis of Robertsville, Missouri, Paul Willis of Union City,
Oklahoma and Lindsay Kirwin of Stillwater, Oklahoma along with many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Betty Karr will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel
with Mack Powers officiating.  Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home of Altus.

KELLY

Evonne Kelly, 88, of Kingston, Oklahoma and formerly of Jackson County, passed away on Wednesday,
October 17, 2007, at the Family Care Center of Kingston.  

Mrs. Kelly was born on March 15, 1919, to Jesse Lee and Emma Edna (Prewitt) Parker in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.  
After the death of her father, her family moved to Frederick, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school in
1938.  Following graduation she worked at several jobs to help support her family.  On February 8, 1941, she
married Iris Kelly in Frederick.  In June of 1942, Iris began serving his country during WWII until October 1945.  
Following the war, Iris and Evonne moved to Stockton, California to work in an aircraft factory.  Two years later
they returned to Frederick where Iris opened a machine shop. In 1948, they purchased a farm near Martha and
Evonne supported the family as a homemaker.  After the death of Iris in 1975, she moved to Altus where she
owned a Merle Norman business for several years, worked at the Surry Shop and operated a Christian book
store.  Evonne was also active in the Sorisois Club in Martha and the First Baptist Church of Altus.  In 1992,
Evonne moved to Peachtree City, Georgia to be closer to her family and returned to Oklahoma in December
2004.

Evonne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Iris; one son, Jerry Lee and two sisters, Barbara
Bilbrey and Glenna Wallace.  She is survived by three sons, John H. Kelly and wife Mary Ann of Kingston,
Oklahoma, Gary Kelly and wife Louise of Cody, Wyoming and Don Kelly and wife Marsha of Norman, Oklahoma;
six grandchildren, Kristi Wade and husband David of Trophy Club, Texas, John Nikolas Kelly and wife Elayna of
Kaufman, Texas, CPT. Gary Lee Kelly of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Beth Kelly of Dallas, Texas, Holly Smith
and husband Eric of Tuttle, Oklahoma and LCPL Weston Kelly who is serving his country in Iraq; six great
grandchildren, John Thomas Wade and wife Tracy, Kelly Wade, Corbyn Kelly, Nikolas Kelly, Tyler Smith and
Tanner Smith; three great-great grandchildren, John Parker Wade, Haley Butler and Morgan Butler; one
brother, L.J. Parker and wife Reba of Ft. Worth, Texas along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Evonne Kelly will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Lowell-Tims Funeral
Home Chapel with Jack LaFountain officiating.  Interment will follow at the Martha Cemetery under the direction
of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of
Evonne Kelly.

KELLY

Ophie Mae Kelly, age 75, formerly of Altus, passed away on Monday evening, November 12, 2007, at Memorial
Hermann The Woodlands Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas.

Mrs. Kelly was born on May 2, 1932, in Tipton, Oklahoma to Lee and Dollie (Holbrook) Jones.  She attended
Laing High School and later moved to Altus where she obtained her Beautician's License.  In 1957, she married
her husband of 30 years, Bill Kelly, and relocated to Houston, Texas.  In Houston, Mrs. Kelly became a licensed
Realtor.  Divorced in 1987, she enjoyed a successful career as a property manager and district manager for
numerous multi family properties throughout the greater Houston area.  She also worked as an apartment
locator and most recently as a receptionist for a Houston area real estate office.  She loved watching tennis on
television and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.  Throughout her life, Mrs. Kelly was known for
her stylish appearance and striking red hair.

Preceded in death by her parents, one son, Ronald Lee Crocket and a brother, Roy Gene Jones.  She is
survived by her daughter, Jill Liccioni and husband Chuck of Spring, Texas; one son, Charles Crockett of
Spokane, Washington; one sister Koelle Hunter and husband Patrick of Altus; their children, Air Force General
Rodney Kim Hunter, his wife Cindy and daughter Aaren of Lawton and daughter Kathleen Marshall, her
husband Charles and children Meredith, Patrick and Hunter of Altus; five grandchildren, Paige and Mitchell
Liccioni of Spring, Texas, Jim Crockett of Norman and Karen Crockett of Oklahoma City and Sgt. Danny
Crockett, wife Amber and great granddaughter Zara of San Antonio, Texas.

Graveside services for Ophie Mae (Jones) Kelly will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2007, at the
Tipton City Cemetery with Rev. R.T. Perry officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home of Altus.

Michael Edwin Klein


 Michael Edwin Klein, 59, of Blair, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2008, at Comanche County Memorial
Hospital following a four year illness.
 Michael was born September 20, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, to Herman and Sylvia (Ginsberg) Klein.  He
married Lynn Greer and they enjoyed many happy years together.
 Michael and Lynn moved their family from Riverside, California, to Blair, Oklahoma, on April 14, 1982.  He
worked for twenty years at the Quartz Mountain Park Golf Course.  He loved sports memorabilia, baseball
cards, and was an avid Cubs fan.
 Preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Sylvia Klein, he is survived by his loving wife, Lynn, of the
home in Blair; two daughters, Shantel Jensen and husband John of Centennial, Colorado, and Rebecca Klein
of Blair; one son, Michael Eugene Klein and wife Starla of Altus; one brother, Eugene Norman Klein and wife
Mary of Florida; five grandchildren, Brittany Eiffert and Brian Jensen, both of Centennial, Colorado, Kaitlyn
Cross of Blair, Lillian Klein and Rylan Klein, both of Altus; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life for Michael Klein will be held 6:00 pm, Friday, June 6, 2008, at Danny’s Tavern in Blair.

KING

Wilma Pearl (Savage) King, age 87, of Altus, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June19, 2008 with
her family by her side.

Wilma was born on January 4, 1921 in Grand Saline, Texas.  Her minister father brought the family to the
Warren community in 1926.  She was the second daughter and the ninth of thirteen children of Walter and
Nancy (Nix) Savage.

Wilma was the loving wife of Willie King for 65 years.  When her husband was called to war, she single
handedly cared for their eldest son.  Upon his return, they relocated to the Friendship community, which always
remained their true home.  The King home was the neighborhood gathering place because of the shared love,
affection and great food.  Wilma was a tireless mother, grandmother and friend and will always hold a special
place in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.    

Wilma was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.  At all church events her generous heart was always
compelled to bring more than enough for everyone.  Her greatest love was for her family.  Wilma was a shining
example of the glue that binds good families together and the light in all our homes shine brighter because of
her.  We will miss her tender love.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willie, parents, Walter and Nancy Savage, brothers Willie, Neely,
Drew, Raymond, Chester, Woodrow, Forrest, Sidney, and sister Thelma.  She is survived by two sons, Maurice
and wife Kathy of Altus and Ralph and wife Dolores of Fairview, Texas; two daughters, Marcia Brian and
husband Richard of Altus and Glenda Bram and husband Rich also of Altus.  Fourteen grandchildren, Melissa
and David Hagen, Altus, Kara and Michael Falen, Edmond, Mollie King, Altus, Shannon King, Plano, Texas,
Toby and Kim King, Oklahoma City, Whitney King, Dallas, Texas, Kim Brian, Hot Springs Arkansas, Angie and
Ted Lawson, Altus, Riccia and Erik Thomas, Pensacola, Florida, Rick Brian, Elk City, Steve and Angela Brian,

KELLEY


   Dortha Adeline Kelley, age 95, long time resident of Washita County died at the Cordell Christian Home
Saturday morning.  Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the First Presbyterian
Church in Cordell officiated by The Reverend Rick Mills.  Burial will follow in the Lawnview Cemetery under the
direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in  Altus.

   Dortha was born October 19, 1912 in Amorita, Oklahoma and was the daughter of John Fern Swaim and his
wife, Myrtle Bruner.  Both parents died when Dortha was nine years old and she, her sisters, and a brother
were raised by neighbors of the family, Tom and Lillie Hansbro.

   Dortha graduated from high school at Amorita and taught in a one room school house in Byron for a period
of time.  Later she completed her degree in education from Northwestern and taught school in Minturn,
Colorado, Rocky, and Burns Flat, Oklahoma.

   Following the outbreak of World War II Dortha met Lowell Eugene Kelley who had recently returned from
serving with the Army in the North Africa and Italy campaigns.  They were married on June 1, 1946 in Amorita.  
They farmed in the Dill City area and after a stint in Colorado; Lowell was appointed Postmaster of Rocky
where they made their home.  On his retirement in 1980 they moved to Cordell.  She was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church and an Eastern Star.

   Survivors include; two daughters; Ada Kathleen Lowell and husband Ron of Altus.  Linda Nell Browning and
husband David also of Altus.  One sister; Ruby Nell Cutright of Cherokee, Oklahoma.  Four grandchildren;
Angela Nebling and husband John of Rogers, Arkansas.  Kelly Lowell and wife Stacie of Millington, Tennessee.
 David Browning of Clinton, Oklahoma.  Deanna Moore and husband Marty of Hollis.  Also surviving are
thirteen great grandchildren.

   She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell Kelley in 1996.  Her parents; Fern and Myrtle Swaim.  
Foster parents; Tom and Lillie Hansbro.  One sister; Thelma Hess.  Two brothers; Harry Sawyer and an infant
brother.

   The casket will lie in state at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus until the day of the service and then at the
First Presbyterian Church in Cordell until service time.
