| NASH Thyra Loretta Nash, age 81 of Altus, passed on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at her home. Thyra was born on April 15, 1925 in Olustee to Delbert John Smith and Mary Etta Dunham Smith. She married Alfred L. Nash on June 16, 1947 in Vernon, Texas. They enjoyed forty-eight wonderful years of marriage before his death in 1995. Living in Jackson County most of her life, Thyra was a member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her pastimes were spent in cooking for family and friends, playing dominoes and sitting on her porch watching people pass by. Preceded in death by her husband; two sons, James Nash and Grady Nash, one grandson, Bobby Kendall and five brothers, Roy Smith, George Smith, Edwin Smith, Albert Smith and Elmer Smith, she is survived by five children, Retta Edwards and husband Stacey of Altus, Lynn Nash and wife Rhonda of Purcell, Oklahoma, Jimmy Nash and wife Jo of Altus, Roger Nash and wife Keri of Blair and Theda Williams of Altus; ten grandchildren, Michael and Tina Kendall, Cassandra and Cecil Sampson, Jeremy and Kari Nash, James Randall Nash, Brenda Nash, Kristi and Justin Pennington, Justin Nash, Vanessa Nash, Heath Williams and Austin Williams along with many other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Thyra Loretta Nash will be held on Friday, September 8, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Osborne officiating. | NIPP Lucy was born in Altus, Oklahoma on May 20, 1911. She was the first born child of Maggie Odam Harper and John Robert Harper. In the ensuing years she became big sister to six siblings. Unfortunately, the 1918 flu epidemic claimed the lives of her infant sister Lois Pearl and three year old brother Newton Poole. Lucy’s father past away during her teen years and that made for a particularly rough time for Lucy and her family during the great depression. Lucy was a graduate of Altus High School. She married E. Cameron “Jack” Nipp on January 12, 1929. Their son, John Franklin, was born on April 23, 1933. Jack, Lucy and John moved to San Diego, California at the beginning of WWII. Lucy was a resident of San Diego County until 2002. While in San Diego she was employed in several positions. Initially she was a seamstress for the New York Costume Company where she sewed many varied costumes for San Diego Ballet, Star Light Opera, Old Globe Theatre and many of the Santa Costumes for local department stores. Lucy later worked at General Dynamics, Convair Division helping build airplanes for America’s defense effort. While in San Diego, Jack and Lucy completed their family with the birth of a daughter, Brenda Beth in July, 1946. Lucy enjoyed rock hounding and square dancing in her free time. Lucy was widowed in 1958 and subsequently, after a Convair layoff, took a position as a housekeeper at College Park Hospital in La Mesa. She remained at the hospital until her retirement in the late ‘70s. Lucy was preceded in death by both her parents and her remaining four siblings who attained adulthood. They included John Robert (JR) Harper of Lawton, OK; Mary Louise Sackett of San Diego, CA; Helen Frances Thaggard of Dallas, TX, who preceded Lucy in death by just five days; and Douglas Calvin Harper of Jackson, MS. Also preceding her was her son John and his wife Jo Anne Baxter Nipp. Lucy loved family and was known to many simply as “Grammie”. She is survived by her daughter Brenda and son-in-law Fred Adkins of Placerville, CA. Her family included seven granddaughters, Debbie Nipp Goettsch of Crest, CA; Diane Nipp Streckert of San Diego, CA; Drenda Nipp Coon of Spring Valley, CA; Melissa Adkins of Livermore, CA; Jessica Adkins Shaw of Citrus Heights, CA; Rebecca Adkins Larson of Noonan, GA; Monica Adkins Booth of Carson City, NV; and one grandson, John Franklin Nipp II of Spring Valley, CA. Her wealth of family also included ten great grandchildren. They are Morgan and Maggie Goettsch; Kyle Streckert; Marie Coon; Matthew and Kadence Shaw; Levi, Bethany and Noah Larson and Arwen Booth. These grandchildren and great grandchildren were the great joy of her life. Funeral services for Lucy Nipp will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2007, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. | Sandy Nichols Sandy Nichols, of Altus, civic leader, outstanding businesswoman and bank vice president, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2007, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City after a 5-year battle with Breast Cancer. Sandra Ann (Sage) Nichols was born in Frankfort, Germany on November 15, 1955, to Col. Gilbert and Shirley Sage. She grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma after Col. Sage was transferred to Ft. Sill in 1956. Her parents retired in Lawton and Sandy completed her public education at Eisenhower High School. She attended Cameron University where she met and fell in love with her husband, Rodney Nichols. Sandy and Rodney were married on January 4, 1975. They moved to Stillwater where Sandy helped Rodney complete his degree at Oklahoma State University. The couple moved to Altus in 1980. Sandy was a professional businesswoman having worked in the banking industry for more than thirty years. She was a dedicated Vice President at the National Bank of Commerce where she had served in many capacities. Her gift was to befriend and help anyone in need. She was a dedicated civic leader and her goal was to help make Altus a better place for all. She was active in many organizations and had received many awards for her contributions to the community and to Altus Air Force Base. Sandy was a long time member and served on the board of Directors of the Altus Chamber of Commerce. She also served as the chair or co-chair on many committees including the Committee of 100, ACC Ambassadors, Military Affairs Committee, ACC Leadership Altus IV Graduate, Altus Air Force Base Honorary Commander three times, Southwest Oklahoma United Way board member and treasure and 1995 Co-Chair for the Fall Campaign, Member and Past-President of Altus Kiwanis Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, initiated the Imagination Station idea and saw it through its construction, received the Prestigious “Friend of Altus Air Force Base” honor, initiated the formation of the Air Force YMCA for AAFB and served as board member, associate member of AAFB Spouses Club, member of Jackson County Relay for Life, worked with the Oklahoma Arts Institute, Short Grass Arts & Humanities Council, served as President of Southwest Oklahoma Chapter of Bank Administration Institute, American Military Bankers Association member and helped her bank to receive the best Bank in the Air Force Award twice. Her father, Col. Gilbert Briggs Sage II, preceded Sandy in death. She is survived by her husband of thirty-two years, Rodney Nichols of Altus; her children Ryan Nichols of Tulsa and Casey Nichols and his wife, Courtney, of Broken Arrow; her brother, Gilbert Briggs Sage, III of Lawton; her mother, Shirley Ann Sage of Lawton and many other loving family members and friends who have supported her during her battle with cancer. Services for Sandy Nichols will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 27, 2007, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus with Rev. David Player officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. | NUCCI Louis Vincent Nucci, Sr., Altus, passed away October 9, 2007, at the age of 85 at the Lawton-Fort Sill Veterans Center, where he resided for a short time. Louis was born in Troy, New York on May 30, 1922 to Felice and Carmela (Ferraro) Nucci. He was raised in Watervliet, New York where he graduated grammar school from the St. Brigid’s Academy. His military experience began when he graduated from high school from Christian Brothers Military Academy in Albany, New York. A veteran of World War II, Louis served in the U.S. Army and underwent basic training at Muskogee, his first visit to Oklahoma in 1942. He was with the 3rd Platoon, Company L 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Blue Devil Infantry Division. He campaigned in Italy, Germany, Belgium, France and Africa. His World War II service included 11 months at Stalag 7A in Moosebery, Germany, and Stalag 3A in Lukenwalde, Germany being wounded in Rome May 1944. He was released in April of 1945. He returned to New York and was a civilian for 5 years before joining the Air Force. After enlisting in the Air Force, he met the love of his life, Anna Laura (Hayes) Nucci, his wife of 51 years, who preceded him in death on February 10, 2003. They were married November 4, 1951 in Altus at the Hudson and Elm Church of Christ. They truly loved the five children, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren that came from this union. While in the Air Force, he served in Germany, Greenland and various bases in the United States. His military career spanned the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. He received the following honors and awards: Bronze Star Medal, Prisoner of War Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, The Silver Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, 6 Good Conduct Medals, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal World War II, World War II Victory Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Army commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar, 3 National Defense Ribbons for serving during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force June 30, 1968 in Altus. He continued to serve his country as a Civil Servant at Altus Air Force Base, retiring in 1984. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and 4 brother: Anthony Nucci, Joseph Nucci, John Nucci and James Delfino, and 3 sisters, Mary Parisi, Nina Schilling and Marininna Delfino. He is survived by his children, Anita Louise Marshall and husband Rick of Altus, Louis Vincent Nucci Jr. of Shannon, NC, Viza Kathleen Haley and husband Will of Carter, OK, Robert Nucci and wife Tammy of Choctaw, OK, Laura Janette Warren and husband Bob of Altus; 12 grandchildren, Melissa Gray and husband Heath of Rocky, OK, Amy Nucci of Altus, Billy Haley of Vici, OK, Phillip and Andrew Marshall, Altus, Brodee and Bradyn Nucci of Choctaw, OK, Carmella and Rachelle Nucci of Shannon, NC, Ryan, Jake and Laurel Warren of Altus; 4 great-grandchildren, Cody, Eric, Skylin and Gabriella Gray of Rocky, OK. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Patrick Nucci and Richard Nucci and 2 sisters, Marion Gerace and Theresa Ferro, all of New York. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. He loved his family and his country very much. Services are scheduled for Friday, October 12th at 2:00 pm, at the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ with Tom Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery with full military honors. Lowell-Tims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. | J.D. Norman J. Dennis Norman, 94, died, Father's Day, June 15, 2008 in Amarillo, Texas. Private burial will take place in the Altus City Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma, Wednesday, June 18 at 11:30 A.M. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at Tamarack Road Church of Christ, 1000 E. Tamarack Road with Brent Adams and Robert Martin of Amarillo, Texas officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma. Mr. Norman was born December 1, 1913 to Evan Edgar and Wilmuth Grace Robbins Norman on a farm in Washita County near Weatherford, Oklahoma. He graduated from Weatherford High School in 1931 and received his B. S. in Math and Science from Southwestern State Teachers College in 1935. He began his teaching career at Frederick High School where he taught two years. During that time he met Marjorie Lurine Peter, and they were married in the home of her parents on May 29, 1937. They then moved to Norman, Oklahoma where he received his Masters Degree in Biological Science from the University of Oklahoma in 1938. In August of that year, they moved to Altus, Oklahoma where Dennis taught math and biology at Altus High School. During the summer of 1961, he attended Oklahoma State University on a grant from the National Science Foundation. That same year, he was made vice-principal of Altus High School with Cletus Street as principal. At the death of Mr. Street, he became acting principal for the remainder of the year 1963-64. In 1964, he returned to the classroom and taught mathematics until his retirement in 1976 after forty-two years of teaching. In August, 1995, due to Mrs. Norman's failing health, the couple moved to Amarillo, Texas to be near their son Joe and his wife Sue. His hobbies included golf, fishing, hunting, and looking for Indian artifacts. He served as elder of Park Lane and later Thomas Street Church of Christ for thirty-four years and taught the auditorium class for twenty years. He belonged to the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association and served as president of the organization one year. His wife of fifty-nine years, Marjorie Norman; one son, Jerry Norman; his parents; three brothers, Maurice Norman, Gerald Norman, and Harold Norman; and one sister, Mildred Edwards, preceded him in death. Survivors include one son, Joe Norman and his wife Sue of Amarillo, Texas; two grandsons, Jeff Norman and his wife Jill of Edmond, Oklahoma and John Norman and his wife Kelly of Amarillo, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Jack Ryan and Sidney Marie Norman of Edmond, Oklahoma and Addison Sue, Ashley Lynn and Alexis Jo Norman of Amarillo; two sisters, Lucile Cattell and Ann Thurman of Ft. Worth, Texas; and many in-laws, nephews, and nieces. The family will be at the Hampton Inn, 3601 N. Main, while in Altus.
