Lorraine B. Smith of Altus, Oklahoma died at her home of natural causes at age
76 on Monday, February 8. Lorraine was born in Manassa, Colorado in
November 1933 to W.L. and Mabel Bagwell. She was the youngest of six
children. She married W.C. (Bill) Smith of Sanford, Colorado in January of 1951
and completed high school the following May. A year later, the first of their three
daughters was born.
They moved to Altus in 1964 where Bill owned and operated several agricultural
businesses—Sheffield-Smith Airport plus S&S Supply & Elevator. Lorraine was
his greatest supporter and assistant in keeping the business books and working
with his customers.
Lorraine enjoyed the outdoors and took up golf in her 40s. She also enjoyed
playing cards and working with her hands in china painting and needle work.
Lorraine guided her family with intelligence and humor. She especially loved
holidays and having her family gathered around her.
Preceded in death by her parents, William and Mabel Bagwell, her husband, W.
C. Smith, an infant son, Michael William Smith, two brothers, Lester Bagwell and
Otho Bagwell, and two sisters, Marjorie Thornton and Izora Metcalf, Lorraine is
survived by three daughters, Roxanne S. Brewer of Lawton, Oklahoma, Teri
Lynn Smith of Dallas, Texas, and Susie Fluckiger and husband Thomas of San
Antonio, Texas; one sister, Rosalia Tharp of Farmington, New Mexico; three
grandchildren, Jessica Brewer and Scott Brewer, both of Lawton, and Erin
Fluckiger of San Antonio, Texas.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews,
and numerous friends.

The family has requested that memorials be made to Lorraine’s favorite charity,
Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 N.E. 13th Street, Oklahoma City,
73014-9930.

The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Tuesday, February 9,
from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at
Lowell-Tims Chapel with Bishop Aaron Montgomery officiating.  Burial will take
place Friday, February 12, 2010, in the Sanford Cemetery in Sanford, Colorado
under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
