Matthew Bassett
Matthew Bassett, 74 of Altus, passed away Tuesday, June 9th, 2010, at the
Clinton Regional Hospital at Clinton, Oklahoma.

     Matt was born November 13, 1935, in Tarrytown, New York to Edwin
Woodrow Bassett and Mary (Evans) Bassett.  He joined the United States
Air Force and proudly served his country for 20 years before retiring Feb.
10, 1973.  His time in the military included two tours in Viet Nam as well as
serving with the Air Force Honor Team for two years.  He then became a
Deputy Sherriff in Jackson County for 8 years. Matt also was a truck driver
with CFI for 15 years.  Along with his other varied interests, Matt was a
member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Teddy, Robert
and Hank; and by one sister, Katherine. Matt is lovingly survived by his
devoted wife, Inez of the home in Altus; two daughters, Debbie Bassett and
her special friend, Sheila Smith of Altus and Gaye Bassett of Norman, OK;
two sons, Matthew Bassett Jr. and wife Kellie of Sanford, NC and Mark
Bassett and his wife Della of Sayre, OK; four grandchildren, Abrum, Tori,
Matthew III, and Chalton; two great-grandchildren, Ariana and Isabella; a
brother-in-law, Buddy Pumroy and wife Pam of Plant City, FL; a
sister-in-law, Norma Byrum of Altus; many nieces and nephews including
Beth McNichels, Patty Tropposso, Hank Jr. and Kenny Bassett.  Also
surviving are special friends, Michael and Dana Fall of Bethany, OK and
Carol and Darrell Barker of Athens, AL.

     Memorial services with Military Honors have been scheduled for 10:00
am, Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in the Veterans Section at Altus City Cemetery
with Jerry Don Henry officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
