Melda Eaton Moore, 91, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Altus Friday, January 22,
2010.
      Melda was born May 25, 1918 to Albert and Velma (Harrison) Eaton in Cordell,
Oklahoma.  She was the oldest of the three children.
      She was raised in Weatherford and attended the Weatherford Public Schools.  She
continued her education at Southwestern State and graduated with a degree in education in 1940.
Melda was a scholar student and gifted piano player.  She continued to play for her enjoyment up
to this past year.  She was popular in high school and was voted May Day Queen.  She married
the love of her life, Richard Moore, in September of that same year on the campus at
Weatherford.  While attending college, she was voted Mrs. Southwestern, and incredibly, her
husband Richard was voted Mr. Southwestern.  Melda planned to teach in Clinton, but her
surviving oldest son, Richard, was born and her husband transferred to Fairview, Oklahoma, to
start their 50-year journey with what was to become Arkla Gas Company.
      Melda was a 60-year member of PEO, President of the CM Chapter in the 1950’s, and
was a 60-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus.  She served on a number
of committees and was a high school class parent in the 1950’s.  Melda was also a Roadrunner
in the 1970’s and was a gracious hostess for many functions through her lifetime, including the
Oklahoma Arts Institute, Air Force Functions, and Arkla Gas.
      Preceded in death by her parents, her husband of over fifty years, Richard, in 1991, her
brother Don, and son, Steve Moore, Melda is survived by her son Richard Moore and wife
Mary of Rye, New York; daughter-in-law, Nancy Moore of Oklahoma City; her sister, Phyllis
Hart and husband John of Ardmore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Scott Moore and wife Allie of
Edmond, Lisa Cornell and husband Dan of San Antonio, Texas, Richard W. Moore III of
Jacksonville, Florida, Katy Song and husband Ho-Shin of Mill Valley, California; two great-
granddaughters, Brook Moore of Edmond and Jane Song of Mill Valley, California, and two
nieces, Linda Newton and husband Mark and Rhonda Robinson and husband Kenneth, all of
Ardmore, Oklahoma.

go to the Steven E. Moore, Chair in Head and Neck Cancer.

The family will receive friends Sunday, January 24, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home.

Memorial Services for Melda Moore will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2010, at the
First United Methodist Church in Altus with Reverend David Player officiating.   A family burial
will be held before the service in the Altus City Cemetery.
