Brad Smalts

  Brad Everett Smalts, 30, of Altus, died suddenly in a
vehicle/pedestrian accident in Oklahoma City Friday, April 9,
2010.
  Brad was born April 20, 1979, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Ronald
and Teresa Smalts.  He lived most of his life in Altus and
graduated from Altus High School in 1998.  All through school,
he was active in sports and music.  He loved football and started
playing at Sunset Elementary.  He continued his love of football
at Altus Middle School, Altus Junior High, and lettered all three
years of High School.  He loved music as well and participated
in the Sunset Singers, the Bull Pup Singers, Junior High Show
Choir, and the Altus High varsity school choir.  In Junior High,
Brad was one of the Salutatorians.  
  He attended the University of Oklahoma and Western
Oklahoma State College, where he received his Associate’s
Degree.  He later decided to follow in his dad’s footsteps and
joined the United States Marine Corp and was Honorably
discharged.  After his discharge from the service, he returned to
Altus, where he worked in the family business, Smalts
Furniture, for a number of years.  Brad was also in the car retail
business in Norman, Oklahoma City, Elk City, Cordell, and
Altus.  At the time of his death, Brad was working as a
contractor at Tinker Air Force Base in the Oklahoma City area.
  Brad was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus his
entire life.  He loved the Lord and knew Him as his savior.  He
had many friends and loved life.  He was always known for his
outgoing personality and his big smile that would light up any
room.  He had a great sense of humor and could make anyone
smile.  He never met a stranger.  Brad was also known for his
big heart and compassion.  He had a special place in his heart
for his family and friends, whom he loved dearly.
  Preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Reverend
Everett Smalts and Ruth Smalts, maternal grandfather, Charles
T. Merritt, and one uncle, Richard D. Smalts, Brad is survived
by his parents, Ron and Teresa Smalts of Altus; one sister,
Rhonda E. Smalts, also of Altus; maternal grandparents, Matt
and Mary Masterson of Summerville, South Carolina; five
uncles, Charlie Merritt of Los Angeles, California, Gordon P.
Smalts and wife Rita and Darrel G. Smalts and wife Sandy, all
of Altus, Jerry D. Smalts and wife Patricia of Oklahoma City,
and Stanley C. Smalts of Tulsa; one aunt, Sandy Borowiec and
husband Jim of Wilmington, North Carolina, and numerous
cousins and many friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 13 from 6:30 pm
to 8:00 pm at Lowell-Tims Chapel.
Funeral Services for Brad Smalts will be held 2:00 pm
Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Dr.
Jeff Moore officiating.  Interment will follow at Altus City
Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
