Vanlandingham

Windell Vanlandingham, 67, of Hollis, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2007, at Jackson County Memorial
Hospital in Altus.
Windell was born March 30, 1940, in Hollis, Oklahoma to JD and Mary Elizabeth Vanlandingham. Growing up, he
attended Ron, Arnett, and Hollis schools, graduating from Hollis in 1958.  When he was a small boy, his mother
showed him three guitar chords, which set off a life-long love of playing the guitar.  He taught himself from there and
played at school, church, and community activities while growing up.  When he was 14, he won a contest and played
on a radio show, The Dixie Boy Jordan Show.
Windell married Barbara Shumate on July 12, 1959, in Hollis.  They made their first home in Gould.  He was
employed by C.R. Anthony in Hollis where he worked until January 1960.
The next few years took the family to several different places including Pampa, Borger, Albuquerque, Amarillo,
Clovis and Altus.  Windell held many different positions throughout the years including Brown's Truck Stop, The
Glass Shop, Gilt Edge Milk, and Sante Fe Railroad.  Tiring of moving, Windell decided to bring his family home to
Gould.  He then held sales positions for Dixon-Kirchoff, Otasco, and Allison Equipment where he began doing what
he loved best...selling cars!  In 1975, he went into partnership with his brother-in-law, Loyd Colson forming C & V
Enterprises, a pre-owned car lot.  In 1977, Loyd left the business to teach school and Windell moved the business to
Hollis and renamed it OK Auto Sales And Service which still continues.  In February 1980, he became a Farmers
Insurance Group Agent and continued that until 1993.  He was appointed the Motor License Agent in 1985, a
position he held until his death.
Serving God was of utmost importance to Windell.  He was saved at a revival service at Metcalf Church when he
was eleven years old.  In 1975, he began attending the First Baptist Church of Gould.  He was ordained as a deacon
in August 1977.  He continued serving the First Baptist Church of Gould until the church closed in August 2005.
Windell then joined the Church of the Nazarene in Hollis.  He served as assistant Sunday school superintendent and
church board member.  He was a very important part of the music program.  He played his guitar and sang bass with
the congregational and special music with Barbara.
This past year he fulfilled one of his dreams by starting the Gospel Jubilee at the civic center in Hollis.  He poured his
heart and soul into making it happen, no matter how ill he was.  He said he always felt better when he left the jubilee.
His desire was to bring the community together for music and fellowship.
He loved his work in the car business.  He told his family many times that working was his hobby.  He also enjoyed
singing and playing the guitar but most importantly spending time with his family.
Windell is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara, of the home in Hollis; three daughters, Vickie Nebling and

WILSON

Gary Dale Wilson, 62, of Wheatland, OK, went to be with our Lord on Aug. 3, 2009.  He was born Sept. 8, 1946,
in Deese, OK to Ambrose Easley and Ada Mae (Muse) Wilson.

Gary began his career in law enforcement serving as a police officer in Altus, Oklahoma in 1969.  He furthered his
career by serving the State of Oklahoma. He worked for the Department of Transportation beginning in 1974 and
retired from the Oklahoma Tax Commission as Personnel Director in 2002.  Gary never met a stranger and never
forgot anyone’s name or details of their meeting.  Smile and laughter from the heart, his gusto for life, willing to
always lend a helping hand, no matter the need or time of day, are just a few of the legacies he leaves for all of us
who knew and loved him.  His passion for horses and restoring old cars made for memorable occasions for all
involved. Gary never did anything half way and no deed was ever complete until all aspects of restoration and
remodeling were completed to perfection. Gary viewed himself as an ordinary man and always remained humble.
He took pleasure in enjoying his family and friends whether it meant traveling to car shows north of Oklahoma or
taking his grandsons to the South Texas Gulf.  Those who knew and loved Gary always viewed him as an
extraordinary man with a kind heart, kind words, and kind deeds towards others.  Our wish is for others to learn
from the legacy he has left and live life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brooke M’Layne Wilson; brothers, Cecil Ray Wilson, Frankie
Bob Wilson and Paul Easley Wilson; and his sister, Pauline Wilson Grider.  Survivors include his daughters, Michele
Funk and husband Scott, Leeanne Carder and husband Eddy, and Andrea Truelove and husband David; sons,
Christopher Wilson and wife Lora, Gary Tyler Wilson, Tobyn Jon Wilson and Terry Drury Wilson; sister, Linda
