| YOUSEY Ida Faye Yousey, age 98, of Hollis, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Harmon County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Yousey was born on May 13, 1908, in Harmon County to William Ferris and Virginia (Barnett) Skinner. On September 11, 1929, she married Stanley Vincen Yousey in Altus. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1980. Living in Harmon County all of her life, she wrote the Corinth News for the Hollis Paper for many years. Baking bread for others, canning and spending time with her family and friends were some of her favorite things to do. Preceded in death by her parents and husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mary Nell Patterson and husband Bob of El Paso, Texas and Oleta Young and husband Bill of Nocona, Texas; one sister, Zudia Blaha of Klamath Falls, Oregon; four grandchildren, Kay Lynn Gibson, Travis Patterson, Stan Young and Scott Young; six great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Ida Faye Yousey will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at the Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Manning officiating. | Mike Ybarra Mike Ybarra, 42, of Hollis, died tragically in a fire at his home early Saturday morning, June 9, 2007. Mike was born January 6, 1965, in Morton, Texas, to Jose Rangel and Benita (Ortiz) Ybarra. He attended school in Hollis and quit school in 7th grade to go to work for Garlon Riley. He later worked as a farm hand for Frankie Long where he was currently employed after 16 years of faithful service. He loved his dog, “Chi Chi” and took her everywhere, even to work. He loved playing Spanish music and camping at Lake Lugert. Mike is survived by his future wife and the love of his life, Hope Lopez of Hollis; three step-children, Robert Lopez, Rachel Lopez, and Tesla Chism Lopez; his mother, Benita Baeza and step-father, Martin Baeza of Hollis; four brothers, Jose Ybarra, Jr. and wife Tracy of Gould, Ricky Ybarra and wife Betty, Benny Joe Ybarra, and Martin Baeza, Jr., all of Hollis; four sisters, Sylvia Ybarra, Sarah Heinrich and husband Greg, Paula Molina and husband Johnny, and Tina Reyes, all of Hollis; four grandchildren, Edward Brown, Pamela Brown, Erica Jaramillo, and Arlena Jaramillo; numerous nieces and nephews, and five great-nieces. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jose R. Ybarra August 20, 1999, and his grandparents. A memorial fund has been established at the Great Plains National Bank in memory of Mike Ybarra. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Hollis with Reverend Jim Westmoreland officiating. | YATES Nelda Valene Yates, age 83, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 31, 2007, at her home in Norman with her family at her side. Nelda was born on June 13, 1924, to Lewis and Jewel (Strother) Mitchell in Martha. After graduating from Martha High School she attended St. John’s Nursing School in Tulsa. Moving back to Altus, she began work for Dr. Earl Mabry. One late evening Ted Yates had an accident while working cattle and thought he had broken his arm. Finding Dr. Mabry, Ted was told to go on to the office and his nurse would take care of him. Nelda was that nurse, and a short time later they began dating. On March 10, 1949, Ted and Nelda were married and have spent the last fifty-eight wonderful years together. Shortly after their marriage, Nelda began working as the school nurse for Altus Public Schools. Later moving from Altus, to Hess, Nelda left her job to raise their children. After eight years on the farm, they moved back to Altus where she worked as a Public Health Nurse before accepting another job as a school nurse with Altus Schools again. Early in the 1960’s the Yates moved to Dallas, where Ted had taken a job, but before long they were back in Altus and Nelda went back to Altus Schools where she retired, in 1986, with twenty-nine years as a school nurse. During the early 1990’s, they moved to Norman to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents and a set of twins in 1953, Nelda is survived by her husband, Ted of the home; two children, Ruth Ann Forsyth and husband Doug of Norman and John David Yates and wife Dr. Barbara Yates of Bolivar, Missouri; five grandchildren, Todd Ottman of Edmond, Ross Forsyth, Rachel Forsyth and Holly Forsyth, all of Norman and Megan Yates of Bolivar, Missouri; one sister, Doris Stillar of Spokane, Washington; a double- cousin, James Mitchell and wife Wanda of Mesquite, Texas; one aunt, Ruth Gadd of Memphis, Tennessee along with many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services for Nelda Yates will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2007, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lionel Mounce officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus. | YATES Ted Elmer Yates was born January 29, 1923, to Elmer Ira and Yada Schrimsher Yates. He passed away on February 17, 2008 in Norman, Oklahoma. Ted was a graduate of Southside High School near Hess, Oklahoma, where the Yates family farmed and raised cattle and hogs. Ted attended the University of Oklahoma where he studied engineering. He served in the Merchant Marines for 2 years on liberty ships out of England during World War II. Ted met and married Nelda Mitchell on March 10, 1948. He left the family farm in 1960 and moved to Altus, Oklahoma, where he worked for ITT Kellogg in the construction of missile silos. In 1963, the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where Ted worked for Moore-Hardeman Salvage, a company specializing in train derailment and elevator explosion salvage. In 1966, he and his family moved back to Altus where he opened a new John Deere dealership with his brother Tom Yates. He retired from the dealership in 1983 and he and Nelda traveled extensively in their motor home. Ted and Nelda had two children, Ann Forsyth of Norman, Oklahoma and John Yates of Bolivar, Missouri; five grandchildren, Ross, Rachel and Holly Forsyth of Norman, Todd Ottman of Oklahoma City, and Megan Yates of Bolivar, Missouri. He was preceded in death by Nelda on October 31, 2007. Memorial services for Ted Yates will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Lowell Funeral Home in Altus.
