| Leta Nell Bailey Leta Nell Bailey, age 85 passed away Monday, February 9, 2004 at English Village Manor. She was born January 15, 1919 to Farris and Ethel Lavania (Greer) Skinner. She married Elmo Bailey in Vinson, Oklahoma, April 17, 1938. Nell was a member of the First Baptist Church since the age of 15. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, and helped to establish the church library. She worked as the Secretary for First Baptist Church, and worked for Cable Vision and Altus Supply. She is survived by: her daughter, Gaylon Holder of Altus, Oklahoma and son James Bailey, of Altus, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Melinda Jane Ford of Yukon, Oklahoma, and one great granddaughter, Sara Jane Ford of Yukon, Oklahoma; one aunt, Faye Yousey of Eldorado, Oklahoma and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmo and sister Maxine Jones. | Edna Pearl Barefoot Edna Pearl Barefoot, 90, of San Angelo, Texas passed away Saturday, December 18, 2004 at Baptist Memorials Center. She was born May 13, 1914 in Altus, Oklahoma to James F. Claiborne and Esther A. Pottorff Claiborne. Edna graduated from Humphrey High School and later went to Oklahoma College for Women where she received her bachelor’s degree. She continued her education at Oklahoma State University where she received her master’s degree. Edna married Guy O. Barefoot June 1, 1941 in Humphrey, Oklahoma, to whom she was married to for 14 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Claremore, Oklahoma. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Guy O. Barefoot; sister Faye Burns; brothers J.B. Claiborne, James Frank Claiborne, George Rodney Claiborne; daughter-in-law Florence L. Claiborne; grandson Kevin Lee Claiborne. She is survived by her son Rodney Wayne Claiborne of San Antonio; sisters Marie C. Guffy and husband Luther of San Angelo, Melba Dean Devore and husband Carl of Kingman, Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at Altus City Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. | Nettie Barnes Nettie Edna Barnes, age 78, lifelong resident of Altus died at the English Village Nursing Home Saturday, February 14, 2004. Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00a.m. Monday at the Altus Cemetery officiated by Dr. Jeff Moore. Arrangements are with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Born October 18, 1925 in Altus she was the daughter of Henry Clay Rogers and his wife Clementine Blaylock Rogers. She married Chester Barnes November 30, 1944 at Hollis. Nettie was a life long resident of Altus and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church. Nettie worked at Jackson County Memorial Hospital and later at the Jackson County Health Department as a Community Worker. She was a member of the Eastern Star as well as the Oklahoma Public Health Employees Association. Survivors include: Three (3) children: Roger Barnes of Altus. Mary Holsey of Duke, and Tommy Barnes of Stephenville, Texas. One (1) sister: Lottie Poulton. Nine (9) grandchildren and thirteen (13) great grandchildren. She preceded her parents. | Anna Lou Barnes Anna Lou Barnes, age 88, passed away in Corpus Christi, Texas, March 30, 2004. Anna Lou was born April 19, 1915, to Porter Tarpley and Hallie (Grimes) Tarpley. Anna Lou married Ohmer Barnes in 1933 in Altus, Oklahoma. Anna Lou was a dear and loving Grandmother to Larry. Anna Lou is loving survived by one sister, Vaneta Cantrell, one grandson Larry S. Bryant and wife Patricia, three nephews; Ennis Penland and wife Lisa, Ronald Gray and wife Jean and Dwayne Tarpley, three Great-grandchildren, Kelly, Bucky, and Jessica, and several great nieces and nephews. Anna Lou is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ohmer ,one son Donald Barnes, two sister, Gladys Gray and Eva Mae Penland, and one brother Burton Tarpley. | Edna Pearl Bennett Edna Pearl Bennett age 85, passed away November 9, 2004 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She was born to Barry and Rose Ellen (Walkup) Thomas on May 1, 1919. Edna married Tom Bennett on July 6, 1941 in Altus, Oklahoma. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, an Volunteer at Jackson County Memorial Hospital for 30 years, worked serval years at the Cinema, Plaza and the Altus Drive Inn Theaters. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters, two brothers and daughter-in-law, Brenda Bennett. She is survived by one daughter, Sue Overstreet of Altus, Oklahoma, one son, Larry J. Bennett of Cushion, Oklahoma, Two Brother-in-law; Ervin Petzold of Altus, Oklahoma, Mike Bennett of Amarillo, Texas, Sister-in-law; Faye Jones, of Altus, Oklahoma, one grandson; Thomas Overstreet of Greenville, North Carolina, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. | Brenda Ann Bennett Brenda Ann Bennett was born April 14, 1947 in Altus, Okla. She was the daughter of the late Cloyce and Audine (Humphrey) Collier. She died July 6, 2004 in Cushing, Okla. She married Larry J. Bennett Feb 1981 and they made their home in Cushing, Okla. She graduated from Altus High School in 1965, and then attended WOSC. | Mary Marie Biles Mary Marie Biles, age 89 of Altus, passed away May 8, 2003 at the Plantation Village Nursing Center. Services, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, are set for 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 12, 2003 at the First Christian Church of Altus. The Rev. Barry Worcester will officiate and interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Mary was born January 15, 1914 to parents Homer Howard Houston and Eva Naomi Brown Houston at Alluwe, Oklahoma. She was united in marriage to Bryan Wilson Biles at Perry, Oklahoma. They enjoyed many years of marriage. Mary worked as a substitute teacher and homemaker. She was active at the First Christian Church, where she served on the Church Board and was active in Bible study. Mary was a member of the Gladiola Club and loved arranging flowers and doing needle work. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bryan, son, Richard Gaylord Biles and several brothers and sisters. Mary is survived by four children, Kaye Waldroop of Altus, Bryan “Dean” and wife Charlene Biles of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Jim Biles of Altus, Chris and wife Robin Biles of Grand Prairie, Texas; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren, relatives and friends. | Clydie Frances Boling Clydie Frances Boling, age 87 of Altus passed away at Jackson County Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 4, 2004. She was born Sept. 22, 1916 in Kaufman County, Texas. She was the daughter of the late David E. & Della Ethel (Heaton) Hilliard. She was a long time resident of Altus and Jackson County having resided here since May 30, 1937. Clydie married Ira Whittenberg March 18, 1934 in Durant, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death July 24,1978. On February 17, 1991 in Vernon,Texas she married Floyd Boling. She attended the Family Worship Center in Altus. She loved to cook, crochet, work in her yard, playing with her dog, “Pretty Boy”, and she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and the special times she spent with her niece, Ethel and brother, John. | Lela Faye Bonds Lela Faye Bonds, age 92 of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She was born January 13, 1912 at Duke, Oklahoma to James Washington Bonds and Eva Angerona (Martin). She graduated from Duke High School and worked several years at Woolsworth Store and Kellwoods Company where she retired. Lela was a longtime member of the First Methodist Church in Duke. She is survived by her sister, Ada Bonds of the home in Altus, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Lela was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, James F. Bonds, John Thomas Bonds, Elbert W. Bonds, Robert William Bonds, Buster Brown Bonds, Samuel Uston Bonds; two sisters, Hepsie Mae Bonds and Edna Jackson. | Lillian Brunson Lillian Brunson, age 92 of Topeka, Kansas, passed away April 12, 2003. Services are set for 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. Bill Osborne will officiate and interment will follow at the Hess Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Lillian was born December 18, 1910 at Tipton, Oklahoma to parents Theodore Hall Steen and Ella Black Steen. She grew up in the Hess area and was 1928 graduate of Hess High School. Lillian was united in marriage to Cromer Brunson on October 10, 1931. They enjoyed many years of marriage. They lived in Pampa, Texas from 1946 until 1978, when they returned to the Jackson County area. Lillian was a member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Cromer in December of 1985; her parents; brothers, Herman Steen and Thurman “Rusty” Steen and sisters, Lizzie Risinger, Dorotha Lovett, Flora Long and Alice Kirby. She is survived by one child, Glenda Quisenberry and husband Jim of Topeka, Kansas; two grandchildren, Kenneth and wife Kay Quisenberry and their son, John Quisenberry, and Karen Quisenberry and husband Andrew Childs. |
