Virgie Mae Garrison


Virgie Mae Garrison, age 59, of Altus died at the Grace Living Center Saturday, May 3, 2003.  Graveside services
are scheduled for Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Enterprise Cemetery near Wapanucka, Oklahoma.  Rev. Jason Duree
pastor of the Southside Baptist Church will officiate.  Arrangements are with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Born November 12, 1943 she was the daughter of Edgar William Garrison and Minnie Florence Walters Garrison.  
She worked at the Cerebral Palsy Center in Midwest City and enjoyed crafts of many kinds including bowling, Special
Olympics, and crocheting.

Survivors include: One sister; Alice Freed and her husband Dwain of Altus.  One (1) brother; Charlie Garrison of
Lubbock, Texas.  Two (2) sister-in-laws; Joy Garrison and Curly Ross of Borger, Texas.  Also surviving are several
nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and five (5) brothers.

The family requests that contributions can be made to the Trinity Hospice in Elk City, Oklahoma
Evia May George


Evia May George, age 89 of Altus, passed away April 7, 2003 at her home.  Services are set for 2:00 P.M.,
Thursday, April 10, 2003 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. T.J. Willingham officiating.  
Graveside services, will follow on Friday, April 11, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at Lorado Cemetery in Lorado, Arkansas.
Evia was born October 11, 1913, to parents George Berry and Martha Lovella Settlemar Berry.  She was united in
marriage to Cleo George on March 28, 1931.  They enjoyed many years together.  She worked as a homemaker and
was devout in her Baptist faith.  She was also a devoted mother and grandmother.  Evia was preceded in death by her
husband Cleo in 1967.
She is survived by one son, Cecil George of Altus; one daughter, Emma Lou Brown and husband Keith of Evansville,
Indiana; sister in law, Zula George of Rector, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Robert Lynn George of Weatherford,
Oklahoma, Kimberley Michelle Parsons of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Carolyn Carter, Keith Carter, Bobby Steele and
eight great grandchildren, C.J. George, Alisha Parsons, Cecilia King, Robert Lecrone, Robert Nunez, Travis Spradlin,
Jennifer Tieken and Jason Brown.
Elizabeth Josephine (Jo) Gregg

Jo Gregg, age 80 passed away Tuesday, December 23,2003 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.  She was born
January 1, 1923 at Paris, Texas to Neal Duncan and Ali (Campbell) Duncan.
On February 8, 1947 in Altus, Oklahoma Jo and Thurman A. Gregg were united in marriage.  Jo had lived in Altus for
over fifty-six years.  
She was a long time member of Gamma Mothers Club, sponsor for the Kay Club at Altus High School, she was also
very active with the P.T.A. organization at Wilson Elementary School in Altus where her sons attended. Jo was a long
time member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ.  She was a primary bible class teacher for over thirty years.
Jo’s life revolved around her family and friends. Jo truly loved her Lord and people, and would never say no to
anyone in need.  She will be truly missed by all those who knew her.
She is lovingly survived by her husband Thurman A. Gregg of the home in Altus, Oklahoma, four sons, Danny
Thurman Gregg and wife Lisa of Nashville, Tennessee, William Paul Gregg and wife Leslie of Nashville, Tennessee,
Joey Shane Gregg of Wichita Falls, Texas, Nicky Darin Gregg and wife Kim of Lebanon, Tennessee; one daughter
Eva Geske and husband Grant of Grand Junction, Colorado.  She is also survived by one brother, James W. Duncan
of Lawton, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren, Shane Gregg, Lee Gregg, Mallory Gregg, Skylar Gregg, McKenzie
Gregg, Cassidy Gregg, Cody Gregg, Duncan Gregg, Carson Gregg, Maggie Jo Gregg, Colt Gregg, Gage Geske,
Nolan Geske, Lanie Geske.
Jo is preceded in death by her parents; Neal and Ali Duncan.
Funeral Services for Jo Gregg are scheduled for Friday, December 26, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at Elm & Hudson Church
of Christ with Bill Osborne officiating.  Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the
direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.   
Pauline Grider

Pauline Wilson Grider passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 2, 2004.  Services have been scheduled for 10:
00 am, Friday, August 6, 2004 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Bud Adkins officiating.  Interment will follow in the
Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Pauline was born December 24, 1923, at Hess in Jackson County, Oklahoma to Ambrose Easley Wilson and Ada
Mae (Muse) Wilson.  She attended Porter High School and graduated from Southside High after the consolidation.  
On January 23, 1945, Pauline and Herbert Kenneth Grider were united in marriage at Guymon, Oklahoma.  They
had 59 wonderful years together, raising three children.
Pauline helped the war effort during World War II by rivoting on C-47’s and inspecting gas masks in California.  She
also taught school near Ardmore, Oklahoma on a war emergency certificate.  She served as Director of the Altus
Senior Citizens’ Center for several years where she enjoyed teaching ceramics before retiring.
Mrs. Grider is preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose Easley Wilson and Ada Mae Muse Wilson; and by two
brothers, Cecil Rae Wilson and Frankie Bob Wilson.
She is lovingly survived by her husband of 59 years, Herbert Kenneth Grider, Sr. of the home; three children, Herbert
Kenneth Grider, Jr. and wife Rebecca of Black Canyon, Arizona, Steven Lynn Grider of San Diego, California, and
Robbie Von McCarty and husband, Steve of Altus, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Kenna Joy Grider, Kenneth Glenn
Grider, and Toni Melissa Grider of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Becky Lynn Perry of Hobart, Oklahoma, Paula New
and husband, Tom of Weatherford, Oklahoma and Steven Aaron Grider of Black Canyon, Arizona; two brothers,
Paul Wilson and wife Bobbie Sue of Altus, Oklahoma and Gary Wilson of Mustang, Oklahoma; one sister, Linda
Heuckendorf and husband, Richard of Choctaw; sixteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Rinda Aileen Groves

Rinda Aileen Groves, passed away Wednesday morning, July 28, 2004, at her daughter’s home in San Antonio,
Texas, where she lived.
She was born September 9, 1909 in Deport, Texas.  She moved to Altus where she met the love of her life, Harley.  
They were married December 15, 1929.   She was employed at Altus Air Force Base working at the 97th Service
Squadron as a Custodial Foreman of Housekeeping Services at the Red River Inn lodging facility.  She retired at the
age of 85 after 27 years of service.  She was well known as “Feisty” to those who worked with her because of her
working spirit.
Her hobbies were Horses, bingo, Football (The Dallas Cowboys) and time with her family and friends. She also
loved to work. She always said people should work hard, stay with their jobs and do their jobs well.” She also said
to retire while you can enjoy yourself.
She was a life time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, she loved people, always had a smile on her face and a
willingness to help others, she will be greatly missed
She is preceded in death by her husband Harley, one grandson David Groves, parents, one brother and one sister.
She is survived by; 5 son David Groves of Houston, Texas, Bob Groves of Altus, Oklahoma, Donnie Groves of
Shawnee, Oklahoma, Lonnie Groves of Purcell, Oklahoma,  2 Daughter Nancy Thomas of Altus, Oklahoma,
Johnnie Groves of San Antonio, Texas and Polly Karen Jones of San Antonio, Texas, one sister Margaret Duncan of
Las Vegas, Nevada and by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren nieces and nephews.
Service for Rinda Aileen Groves will be held Sunday, Aug 1, 2004, at 2:00pm at the Emmanuel Baptist Church with
Rev. Boyd Whitehead officiating.  Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery.
The family will greet friends on Saturday, July 31, 2004 from 6:00 to 7:30pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Newt A. Gullett

Newt A. Gullett, age 96, of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Jackson County
Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 24, 1908 in Porum, Oklahoma to James B. and Phoebe (Jones) Gullett.  
 He served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged. Newt owned and
operated Newt’s Food Store at Duke for forty-six years.
Newt married Marie B. McDaniel in 1927, at Gould, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death in 1956.  In 1957, he
married Alma Ree Vinson at Mangum, Oklahoma.
Newt was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus and a longtime member of the Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his wife Alma Ree Gullett of Altus, Oklahoma, one son Jimmy Gullett and wife Norma of Benton,
Arkansas, one daughter Delphine Williamson of Purcell, Oklahoma.  He is also survived by one sister Irene Holsey
of Altus, Oklahoma, one brother Earl Gullett of Dumas, Texas; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Marie Gullett, one brother Harold Gullett, two sisters Ethel
Purdue and Bert Robinson.
Funeral Services for Newt A. Gullett are scheduled for Sunday, November 7, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. in the Lowell-
Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eugene Foreman officiating.  Interment will follow in the Rock Cemetery at
Duke, Oklahoma under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
