| Steve James Marecek Jr. Steve J. Marecek, Jr. passed away November 30, 2003 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Services will be held at Lowell-Tims Chapel, Friday December 5, 2003 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery with full Military Honors under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Steve was born May 30, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Steve Marecek, Sr. and Oda Katherine Holmes Marecek. He graduated from Omaha Technical High School in 1939 and entered the U.S. Army that same year. He transferred to the U.S. Air Force in 1947 where he remained until his retirement in 1969. Steve served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Steve was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Altus. He was a 3rd Degree Master Mason, Covert Lodge #11 since 1946 and Altus Chapter 49, Order of the Eastern Star. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and wife Blanche Opal Garrison Marecek. Survivoring are four sons; Gerald Walcher and wife, Debbie, of Wichita, Kansas, Steve J. Marecek,III and wife, Lois, of Tucson, Arizona, William Dean Marecek and wife, Gloria, of Fontana, California and Gawain Willis and wife, Karmen, of Robertsville, MO, five grandchildren; Cara Walcher Williams, Matt Garrison Willis, Paul Mark Willis, Steven Robert Marecek and Eric James Marecek and a great-granddaughter Tiana Alise Williams. Also surviving is a brother, Kenneth Marecek of Salem, OR and sister, Margaret Anna Cox of Palm Desert, CA and his caregiver, Gloria Matthews along with a great many family and dear friends. | James F. (Speedy) Marshall James F. (Speedy) Marshall, age 87, passed away Monday evening July 5, 2004 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Speedy was born on June 4, 1917, to Frank and Eula (Evins) Marshall on their farm northwest of Duke. He graduated from Duke School and continued his education at Central State University in Edmond. Speedy later served his country as an instructor in the Army Air Corps during the Korean War and retired as a rural mail carrier in the Duke community after many years of service. A former member of the Altus City Council for many years, Speedy chose not to run in 2002, but served the last few years as the Vice-Mayor of Altus. A kind and gentle man, Speedy faithfully served as a volunteer with the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen for many years. He was also a member of the Elks Golf and Country Club, a Mason and a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Altus. On December 31, 1949 Speedy married the love of his life, Jo Jackson. She preceded him in death in 1996, after he cared for her during failing health for many years. Speedy is survived by two sons; Matt Marshall of Duke, Oklahoma and Luke Marshall of Tishomingo; one brother Don Marshall and wife Vernie of Altus and one sister Hazel Darby of Altus, Oklahoma. Speedy is also survived by three grandchildren who he dearly loved; Laramie, Landon, and Laina Marshall of Tishomingo. Committal services will be held at the Altus City Cemetery on Friday, July 9, 2004 at 10:00 am with Reverend Eugene Foreman officiating. A celebration of life services for James F. | JULIANA MARQUEZ Juliana Marquez, age 74 of Blair, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2004 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma. Mrs. Marquez was born January 28,1930 at Benavides, Texas to Augustine Garza and Justa (Mireles) Garza. On January 1, 1946, Juliana married Guadalupe (Lupe) Marquez in Benavides, Texas. In 1962 Juliana and Lupe moved to Oklahoma, where Juliana was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her family and also liked to dance. Mrs. Marquez was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, four sisters, one brother, two children, Lupe Jr. and Ruben and two grandchildren. Juliana is survived by her husband, Lupe and nine children; Mary Marquez and fiancé, Victor Cobos of Altus, Ramiro Marquez and wife Christy of Wichita Falls, Texas, Roel Marquez and wife Shirley of Frederick, Oklahoma, Juan Marquez and wife Madge of Altus, Oklahoma, Josie Castillo and husband Sam of Cordell, Oklahoma, Francis Hartlein and husband George of Vernon, Texas, Mario Marques and wife Tonia of Cordell, Oklahoma, Rose Gray and husband Bill of Blair, Oklahoma, and Luis Marquez and wife Maria of Altus, Oklahoma. She is also survived by one brother, Juan Garza and his wife, Ester of Bowie, Texas, one sister, Maria Garza of Benavides, Texas, 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and many, many friends. A Rosary will be held for Juliana Marquez on Tuesday, December 28th at 7:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Chapel and Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 2:00 pm. at Lowell-Tims Chapel with interment at the Blair Cemetery. | VADA IRENE WINBERRY MAYFIELD Vada Irene (Winberry) Mayfield, 91, passed away on October 28, 2003 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a long illness. Services are set for 11:00 AM, Friday, October 31, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Altus with Reverend John Welch officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. A Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00- 7:30PM at Lowell-Tims for family and friends. Vada was born November 8, 1911, in Linn, Oklahoma, Marshall County, to Edna Pearl and George Winberry. Her older brother, Rupert Winberry, was born February 21, 1901, and died in 1983. Her daddy, George, died from leukemia when Vada was 6 months old. Vada’s mother married Tillman Francis Thornton in 1916 and together they had her younger brother, Tillman Francis Thornton, longtime resident of Elk City, who died in 1984. Vada graduated from Tishomingo High School in 1929. She then attended college at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA., Oklahoma A&M (now OSU), and completed her teaching degree at Weatherford Teachers College (now Southwestern Oklahoma State University). Vada met Leroy Mayfield, a banker in Blair, Oklahoma, while she was teaching there, and they married in 1938. Later they moved to Altus where Leroy worked at First National Bank for many years and Vada worked at the Altus Times Democrat as a copy assistant to Callaway Buckley. Vada and Leroy had one son, Stewart Mayfield, and Vada resumed her teaching career in 1959 at Falcon Elementary School (now Rivers Elementary). Vada retired in 1979, having served as a public school teacher for 25 years. Her beloved Leroy then passed away in 1986. She was active in UMW for over 25 years and assisted with activities at the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 50 years. She also was active in Clionian, was a supporter of the Altus Library and Women’s Guild, and she volunteered some of her post retirement time at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Vada and Leroy enjoyed each others company and loved to go to OU football and basketball games. They also enjoyed spending time with Stewart at OU fraternity functions and with friends in Norman. Vada for many years had a special coffee group that gathered most afternoons except for Sundays. It included Vada, Jeanette Schmedt, Polly Dial, Dorothy Garvin, Grace Littlejohn, Glee Garnett, and Lucy Williams, some of whom preceded her in death. Saturdays were reserved for hamburgers. Vada was a special gift from God; a strong believer, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She believed, as did Leroy, “if you cannot say something good about someone, then don’t say anything at all.” She was a lady and woman of God. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many of us who knew her. She loved her grandchildren and was able to enjoy Spencer and Gabrielle. Vada is survived by her son, Stewart, and his wife, Sandie, of Norman, OK; their children, Spencer Alexander Thornton, 6, and Gabrielle Elizabeth, 3. Vada has two nieces; Wynema Schermoly of Arkansas, and her husband, Joe. And Pat Berdano and her husband, Aldo, of Houston; great nephews, Gary Chesnutt and his wife, Kerry,of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Tommy Chesnutt and his wife, Sharon, of Austin, Texas; great niece, Dena Degraff and her husband, Doug of Houston, Texas, and several other relatives who she loved and enjoyed. | Betty Jo Mayrhofen Betty Jo Mayrhofen, age 74, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2004 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She was born April 13, 1930 in McClain,Texas to Euell and Mary Burgett. Betty married Joe Mayrhofen on October 4, 1947 in Vernon, Texas. Betty had several hobbies she enjoyed especially cooking and spending time with her family and friends. | Joy Menges Joy Menges, age 72, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2004 at English Village Manor, she was born March 21, 1931 to the late Harry and Edith (Howerton) Sorensen. Joy lived in Altus since 1969, moved from Eielson AFB, Alaska. In 1966 in Pismo Beach, CA. Joy married F.E Menges he preceded her in death May of 1972. Joy worked in Civil Service as a Production Analyst until her retirement in 1991. She is survived by 1 son Dana Madson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 2 Daughters Carolyn Quayle and Husband Allan of Altus, Oklahoma and Barbara Moyer and Husband Pat of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. 2 Grandchildren Richard and Phillip Moyer of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. | Gladys May Mills Gladys May Mills 89, of Altus, passed away Monday, December 15, 2003, at the English Village Manor. Gladys was born December 28, 1913, in Alice, Texas, to Jesse D. and Eller (Langston) Davis. She married Rhuel Pink Mills January 16, 1930, in Frederick, Oklahoma. She was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She is survived by two children, James Mills and Ruby Pearl Chaffin, both of Altus; eight grandchildren, Jim Lovett and T.J. Luton, both of Seligman, Missouri, Betty Harter of Bridgewater, New York, Bobby Kazzar of Germany, Charles Beavers of Oklahoma, and Jamie Mills of Taft, Oklahoma. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rhuel Mills, one brother, two sisters, and a grandson, Jerry McDowell. | Harold James Morris Harold James Morris, age 83 of Altus, passed away August 25, 2003 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, are set for 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 28, 2003 at the Altus City Cemetery. The Rev. Boyd Whitehead will officiate. Harold was born to parents V.T. and Ethel Morris on May 11, 1920. He grew up in Jackson County and was united in marriage to Hazel Lawson Morris on July 27, 1957 at Headrick, Oklahoma. They enjoyed many years of marriage. Harold was a veteran of the United States Army. He also worked until retirement as a civil servant performing heavy equipment maintenance. Harold was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed working in his yard. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel in February of 1998; one son, Gerald Stephens in September of 1996; his parents and seven brothers. He is survived by two daughters, Shirley and husband Carl Risinger of Altus and Tawana Jo and husband Archie Richardson of Hemet, California; four sisters, Margaret Voyles and husband Clifford of Oklahoma City, Ellen Rae Cosgrove of Oklahoma City, Okla Smith of Noble, Oklahoma, Lorena Carnish and husband Bud of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Darlene Look, Linda Wallace and Diane Woodard, all of California and four great grandchildren. |

| Marjorie Louise Monzingo Marjorie Louise Monzingo was born Jan 5, 1918 in Marshfield, Oregon. She was the daughter of the late Alfred J. and Minnie Lee (Ross) Allison. She died Jan. 4, 2003 in Altus. She was a long time resident of Altus and Jackson County having resided here since 1929. She married Leroy Monzingo, March 11, 1934 in Mangum, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1954. She owned and operated a restaurant in Altus for 30 years. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include: Son Ken Monzingo of San Diego, Calif., 6 Grandchildren and 3 Great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter, Sandra Jean Walker, and 1 sister, Edith Hadley. She was united in marriage to Kenneth James Monks in 1965 at McCurtain, Oklahoma. In 1965, they moved to Blair, Oklahoma. Ola was a homemaker, attended the Salvation Army, and enjoyed being with her family. She also enjoyed working around her house and watching television. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Bill and Alvie Capehart. Ola is survived by her two children, Faye and husband Curtis Frysinger of Snyder, Oklahoma and Kenny and wife Monica Monks; sister in law, Earlene Capehart of Blair; brother, Bobby and wife Edna Capehart of Mangum, Oklahoma; sister, Shirley Thompson of Mangum, Oklahoma; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. |

| Chrystine Morrison Memorial services are scheduled for Chrystine Morrison, 85, of Altus at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 18, 2004 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. She passed away Friday, May 14, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ms. Morrison was born March 8, 1919 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Walter C. Chennault and Mabel (Mott) Chennault. The family moved to Altus when she was very young and she began her education in a one-room schoolhouse. She performed many types of employment throughout her employment years. She retired from Kellwood Lingerie Company at the age of 62 and began another career at Altus Senior Citizens “helping cook for the old folks”. In 1994 she became a volunteer for the Department of Human Services transporting a dialysis patient to treatment and medical appointments. Chrystine was very talented seamstress, excellent cook, and her hobby was crocheting. She was very family oriented and adored her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, John and Maude Chennault and C.P. and Almeda Mott, a sister, Juanita Tabb, infant brother, J.C. Chennault. Surviviors are a son, Tommy Davlin of Altus, daughter, Anita Ellerbee of Altus, brother Bobby Chennault of Wichita Falls, Texas, sister, Mildred Halcomb of Altus,aunt, Pauline Mott, of San Pedro, California, five grandsons, Bo Ellerbee, Buddy Ellerbee, Chris Davlin, Jason Davlin, and Brandson Scott Davlin, and seven great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews and many friends.
