Obituary for Frances Stephenson
Frances Stephenson, a resident of Altus, Oklahoma, and former resident of
Mesa, Arizona, passed away at her home on March 2, 2024, at the age of
seventy-three.
Frances was born March 9,1950 in Amarillo, Texas, to Roy Amos
Stephenson and Bernice Burnett Stephenson. She was the third child born
to the Stephenson family. She was raised and educated in Claude, Texas,
and graduated from high school in 1968. Frances received several
scholarships to McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, before transferring to
Kentucky Wesleyan University, where she double majored with a Bachelor
of Science degree. After receiving her bachelor's degree, Frances obtained
a Master's Degree and went to work in Industrial Inspection and Risk
Management. Following her graduation, she worked for the Central
Intelligence Agency in Langley, Virginia. After serving her country, Frances
worked as a safety inspector for TRW. In the mid-90s she moved to Mesa,
Arizona, where she worked at a youth detention center. Her final job before
retirement was working for Maricopa County as a park safety inspector.
Frances was a loving and caring individual who attracted people wherever
she went. She always saw a person for his or her potential, not for what the
world saw. She dedicated herself to helping people become the person he
or she was destined to be. Frances loved her family immensely and was a
devoted sister, aunt, friend, stepmother, and godmother. Frances was a
world traveler, who traveled the globe, making friends, enjoying the sights,
and collecting mementos of her travels. She would share these items with
her friends and family. Some of her favorite places she traveled were India,
Russia, Asia, and Africa. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, crafting,
doing puzzles, pulling pranks, and making jokes. She also enjoyed cooking
and mixing spices from around the globe with a little twist to make it unique
to Frances' kitchen.
Frances was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and was devout in
her faith. Everywhere she lived and everywhere she traveled, she always
made sure to put God first. Frances was a trailblazer and was often the
only woman in her career field. She pursued excellence in everything she
did. She leaves a legacy of hard work, determination, and unwavering love
for her family.

Frances was preceded in death by her father, Roy Amos Stephenson,
mother, Bernice Burnett Stephenson, and brother, Edward Lee Stephenson.
Left to honor her memory are her sisters: Evelyn Davis, Mary Howard and
Lawona Guynes; nieces and nephews: Charlyn Browning, Larry Williamson
and wife Anna, Lisa Stephenson, Lori Stockstill and husband Greg, Leslie
Knox and husband Tim, Jeff Howard, Amie Howard, Andy Guynes, Heather
Meade and husband Wayne, Kendra Whitaker, numerous great nieces and
nephews, and a host of friends from across the globe.
