GARY WALTER HARRIS, MD.
Service of Remembrance and Celebration of Life for Gary W. Harris, 76, of Edmond, Oklahoma, will be at 2:00 pm., Tuesday July 24, 2018, at Greer Funeral Home, in Mangum, Oklahoma. The Honorable S.E. Qualls will officiate. Interment will follow at the Jester Cemetery.
Gary was born October 9, 1941, in Shattuck, Oklahoma., the son of Conner and Faye Harris, and passed away peacefully surrounded with family and love Monday, July 16, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Gary graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Northwestern State University, Alva, OK. He later earned his Medical degree with honors from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in May 1968. Following graduation, he completed residencies in Ophthalmology and Neurology.
A Vietnam veteran, he served honorably as an Officer and Surgeon in the United States Navy at Camp Pendleton, California.
Gary was united in marriage to Bernice E. Cook on August 26, 1961, in Buffalo, OK.
He practiced medicine in Stillwater and Edmond, OK., before retiring from the Dean McGee Eye Institute in 1997.
He was a member of Henderson Hills Baptist Church, Edmond OK., where he developed the archive audio ministries database. Gary will be remembered for his love of family, dedication to medicine and loyalty to friends. He truly enjoyed helping others and had a deep compassion for animals in need.
He is survived by wife, Bernice, son Michael and wife Michelle of Arcadia, Oklahoma., son Derrick and wife Gaby and grandson Conner Wade of Sahuarita, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Elmore.
