HAZEL CHUMLEY
Hazel Chumley, age 94, of Wellington, Texas and formerly a longtime resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Collingsworth General Hospital in Wellington, Texas.
Hazel was born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma on March 31, 1924 to her parents James Leonard Packwood and Leona Mae (Roberts) Packwood. She was one of nine children and she was raised in Broken Bow. Later the family moved to Harmon County Oklahoma to pick cotton and Hazel has resided in Hollis ever since until her later years she resided in Wellington to be closer to her daughter. Hazel married Max Chumley on March 24, 1945 in Childress, Texas and he preceded her in death in 1985. She worked as cook for many years at the local nursing homes, restaurants, churches, and the Motley Hotel Cafe. Hazel was a longtime member of the Hollis First Baptist Church and she enjoyed going on church trips. She enjoyed camping and fishing, working in her flower beds, and spending time with her family. Everyone in the Hollis area knew Hazel for her talent of making the best pies that anyone could ever eat.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband; her son Garry Chumley in 2014; two brothers and six sisters; and her great grandson Trevor Oliver; Hazel is survived by two children, Shirley Dodson and her husband Duane of Wellington; and Billy Chumley of Hollis; three grandchildren, Nickie Dodson and wife Dana; Shardee Chumley; and Chad Chumley and his wife Chrystal; ten great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Janie Packwood; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel in Hollis. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
