JOE LYNN MILTON
August 2, 1930 – July 1, 2018
Joe Lynn Milton, age 87, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma.
Joe was born in Altus on August 2, 1930 to his parents Walter and Evelyn (Ivey) Milton. He was a graduate of Altus High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1954 at Fairchild Air Force Base outside of Spokane, Washington. Joe attended Altus Junior College and then received a Bachelor of Architecture and a Minor in Landscape Architecture from The University of Oklahoma. Joe married Ovena Wanell Winkler on June 18, 1954 and spent over 60 happy years together. He moved back to Altus and began working for William A. Appleby & Associates. Many years later, Joe worked for Glenn Briggs & Associates. Joe loved the Frank Lloyd Wright style of architecture and developed his own signature creations. His family and friends called him “round Joe,†because of his circular building designs. Joe’s work can be seen in the Altus High School Cafeteria, the Altus High School Library (now the Senior Citizens Center), the First Baptist Church, the Southern Prairie Library System, North Main Fire Station, and building projects at Cameron University and Western Heights High School in Oklahoma City to name a few. Joe loved landscaping! His beautifully manicured yard in Altus was always perfectly picturesque! He spent most of his time working on and relaxing in his oriental garden.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Evelyn Milton, his brother, Ronnie Milton, and his wife, Ovena Milton. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Hampton, and her husband Adam of Nashville, TN; his daughter, Dana Hicks, and her husband Shane of Altus, OK.
The family will receive friends at Lowell Tims Funeral Home from 1pm to 3:00 P.M. Wednesday July 4, 2018. Funeral Services for Joe will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday July 5, 2018 at Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel.
