Obituary for Royce Elliott Garmon
Royce Elliott Garmon was born on November 18th, 1933 to Lester and Maxine (Elliott) Garmon in Des Moines, IA. Royce graduated from Creston High School in 1953 . Following high school, Royce enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954. Royce proudly served in the Air Force for 20 years, primarily as a quality inspector for Minute Man missles and also worked on the gunnery systems for B-52s. During his service, Royce was stationed at Altus Air Force Base, OK., Whiteman AFB, MO., Vandenberg AFB, CA., and Warren AFB, WY. Royce retired as a Master Sergeant (E-7) in February 1974.
Royce married Patricia Sue Smith on November 2nd, 1957 in Altus, OK. To this union, Royce adopted two children, Larry Michael and Geneva Sue, born to Patricia prior to the marriage. Together, Royce and Patricia had two children, Van Allen and Robin Elliott.
After retirement, Royce worked several jobs in the Altus area and ultimately found long term employment for the City of Altus as the indoor/outdoor swimming pool manager. Royce, along with Linda Wiginton, managed the City Pool for 17 years until his retirement.
In February 6th, 1984, Royce married Peggy Isenberg where they continued as residents of Altus, OK until his death.
During his spare time, Royce enjoyed restoring classic cars, art, attending OU Sooners football games, and spending time with family. Royce was particularly fond of Buicks and his 1959 Porsche. Royce’s final project was restoring a 1957 Buick up until his death.
Royce was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Larry. He is survived by his wife Peggy of the home, daughter Susie and her husband, Gary Haumpy of Tulsa, OK., son Van of Norman, OK., son Robin and his wife Pam of Altus, OK., and grandchildren Charity, Shaune, Nicholas, Lorry, Billy, Sally, Laura, Lee, Ryan, Alyson, Brady, and many great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Thursday, Febuary 15 at Lowell-Tims from 4:00 til 6:00 PM and funeral services will be held on Friday, Febuary 16 at Lowell-Tims chapel at 2:00 P.M.
