Alberta Knighton was born January 6th, 1926, in Anderson, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Calvin and Eula Mae (Sherrard) Jones. She died June 28, 2000, in Altus, Oklahoma.

Alberta married Charles Knighton October 16, 1948 in Norfolk, Virginia, and he preceded her in death May 13, 1995.

Alberta had been a resident of Altus and Jackson County since 1955. She worked at Altus Air Force Base as a food service manager until her retirement. She was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church, where she served o several Auxiliaries of St. Johns including the Usher Board and Women's Mission.

She is survived by one son, Melvin Knighton, of Amarillo, Texas; one brother, Ralph Jones, of Apolachicola, Florida; a sister-in-law, Ollie Hart and her husband David of Altus; three nieces, Lucy Ann Walker and Luther of Anderson, South Carolina, Rosalyn Hall and
Andrew of Altus, and Erica Harris, also of Altus; two nephews Lafayette Garrison and Peggy of Anderson, South Carolina, and Jeremy Harris and Chanel of Altus; special friends Hollis and Annette Atkinson of Altus and a host of other relatives and friends.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, George, Calvin, and Isaac Jones, and one sister, Essie Mae Garrison.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, July 1, 2000 at 10:00 AM at the St. Johns Baptist Church with interment following at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
