Alene Simmons, age 76, of Headrick, after a long battle with cancer she went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday morning, January 25, 2017, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.
Mrs. Simmons was born in Blytheville, Arkansas on April 12, 1940, to Dewitt and Gladis (Hitt) McDade. Her younger years were spent moving several times, because they had to follow were her dad's job took them. They moved back to Blytheville to stay when her dad starting working on Blytheville Air Force Base. Alene graduated Blytheville High School May of 1958. After graduating from high school, she worked at the only Five & Dime Store in Blytheville that had central air-conditioning,a Piggly Wiggle and a Root Beer Stand. She was introduced to Jearld Roy Simmons by her sister Glenda. Jearld was a Sr Airman in the United States Air Fore stationed at Blytheville AFB. He soon become the love of her life. They were united in married on March 31, 1963 at Beacon Baptist Church in Blytheville. They were stationed in Florida, South Dakota and Okinawa Japan before being assigned to Altus Air Force Base. The family moved to Headrick, Oklahoma in 1974, where Alene lived until her death. Shortly after their move, Alene began cooking at English Village Nursing Home, later serving as an Altus AFB Telephone Operator for many years. She was know as Operator 9. Her last job, before retirement was with the A-Team's Technical Order Distribution Office on Altus AFB. This wonderful lady was always helping others. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Literacy Program. She was a very active member of Headrick 1st Baptist Church and in the Headrick Community activities. Alene loved to crochet and to travel. During her younger years, she was very involved with her children"s activities, 4H, TSA, Archery Club, Navajo Science Club or any project they were working on for school. She was just as involved with her grandchildren's projects.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband and one sister, Lorena Glisson, she is survived by two children, Joy Finch and husband Jason of Headrick and Jason Simmons and wife Courtney of Stillwater; three grandchildren Kayla Legare and husband Kenneth of Manford, Cheyanne Finch of Altus and Kaycee Finch of Headrick; three great grandchildren, Kae"Dyence Legare, Ka"Myah Legare and Kingston Legare; one sister, Glenda Dennis and husband Joe of Mammoth Springs, Arkansas; one brother William Curtis McDade of Bremerton, Washington along with numerous special nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Alene Simmons will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Rich Ainslie officiating. Interment will follow at the Headrick Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Friday evening, January 27, 2017, from 6 until 7 p.m.
