Obituary for Alfred Tice Howard
Alfred "Al" T. Howard,75, lifelong resident of Hollis, Oklahoma passed away November 23rd, 2022, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Alfred was born December 11, 1946, in Hollis, Oklahoma to Edward and Ruth Mae (Mitchell) Howard. He was raised and educated in Hollis, Oklahoma, and graduated from Hollis High School in 1965. After high school, Alfred attended Oklahoma State University for two years before he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on September 8, 1967. Soon Alfred was off to fight in the Vietnam War. He received several awards for his valiant service, some of these were the combat action ribbon, , the Vietnam Service medal, two purple hearts, and the navy achievement medal with a combat "V". Alfred was discharged from the Marines on October 2, 1969. He couldn't wait to return home to his beloved town Hollis. Alfred took up carpentry as his vocation and was very gifted at his trade, he could build almost anything and took great pride in his craftsmanship.
On January 1, 1971, Alfred married the love of his life Mary Bryant in the Faith Bible Church This marriage would be blessed with two children, a son Robert and a daughter, Melissa.
Alfred loved his hometown, he served thirty-three years as a volunteer firefighter, and he cherished this time with his fellow firemen. He also served as the Dodson Texas Post commander, in the Hollis VFW, the Hollis Lions Club, and the Hollis J.C. One of his favorite activities was calling bingo with his band buddies at the Hollis VFW Bingo.
Alfred was a member of Hollis First Baptist Church.
Alfred lead a life of service to his country, his community, and his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Buchannan Howard; mother, Ruthie Mae Howard; three brothers, Kenneth Howard, Arvill Howard, Robert Parton; two sisters, Wanda Sue Tice, Fern Cariker; and a grandson, Gage Herter.
Left to Cherish Alfred's legacy are his beloved wife Mary Howard, his son, Robert David Howard and wife Shari, daughter, Melissa Herter and husband Sasha, two brothers, Edward L. Howard, Michael B. Howard, sister, Barbara Freeland; four grandchildren, Allison Howard, Bella Herter, Noah Herter, and Micah Herter.
The Howard family will receive friends at Harmon County Funeral Home, Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2022, at The First Baptist Church of Hollis, Oklahoma with interment at Fairmount Cemetery, Hollis, Oklahoma.
