Obituary for Alger Louis Fowler
Alger Louis Fowler, 66, a longtime resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away June 14, 2020, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
On May 25, 1954, in Tulia, Texas, Alger was born to Alger Jack Fowler and Addie Mae (Ruland) Fowler. Alger grew up in Texas but moved Hollis, Oklahoma, for his senior year of high school. Following high school, Alger enlisted in the United States Air Force, but following boot camp injured his knee and was given a medical discharge. Upon returning from the Air Force, Alger married Teresa Yvonne Sherrill on June 28, 1975, in Vinson, Oklahoma at the Nazarene Church. Of this marriage, two children were born Shane and Tara. Alger worked as a tractor mechanic for Dixon-Kirchoff and Livingstons Machinery. He enjoyed watching his Dallas Cowboys play on Sunday, playing games, raising and breeding chickens and pigeons, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He was a member of several clubs and organizations with racing and breeding pigeons.
He was preceded in death by his father; Alger Jack Fowler, his mother; Addie Mae Fowler, and his beloved wife; who passed on October 19, 2009, after thirty - four years of marriage, Teresa Fowler.
Alger is survived by Son; Shane Fowler and wife Annie of Lubbock, Texas, Daughter; Tara Rollins and husband Jason of Hollis, Oklahoma, two Brothers; Larry Fowler and wife Judy of Amarillo, Texas, Carl Fowler of Gravett, Arkansas, Three sisters; Peggy Hopper of Sugarland, Texas, Jackie Jarrell and husband Art of Wichita Falls, Zelda Lanford and husband Lane of Columbus, Texas, Five grandchildren, Dylan, Madison, Kaden Rollins of Hollis, Oklahoma, Zaria, Zhane Fowler of Lubbock, Texas, father in law Gerald Sherrill and wife Ann of Sayre, Oklahoma, a special friend Linda Shotts and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Fowler family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. To 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2020, at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alger Fowler Memorial Fund at Great Plains Bank, 120 Jones Street Hollis, Oklahoma 73550 or Stockmans Bank, 201 East Broadway Hollis, Oklahoma 73550.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2020, at First Baptist Church of Hollis. Graveside services follow the church service where Alger will be laid to rest next to his wife Teresa at Independence Cemetery, Vinson, Oklahoma.
