Alma Wynell Powell Lankford went to be with her Lord June 22, 2019. She was born December 17, 1925 in Duke, Oklahoma to William Virgil and Alma Stroud Powell.
She graduated from Duke High School as Valedictorian of her class. She was a member of the 4-H club, Varsity Glee Club and Ladies Quartet throughout high school. Following high school she became a bookkeeper and kept books for a number of businesses and individuals for more than 63 years.
On July 3, 1953 Wynell married the love of her life, Max Lankford. They were privileged to celebrate more than 61 years of marriage. They became members of First Baptist Church in Altus in 1954 where they both served for more than 50 years in various ways. Wynell taught children’s Sunday School, mostly 3rd graders, for many years. She loved following sports, especially OU football and basketball and Altus Bulldogs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, son, Ken Lankford, her parents, William and Alma Powell, her in-laws Otis and Katie Lankford, brothers, Lacy, Virgil Jr., James, Harold & Noelin, sisters Maurine, Ina Mae, Jaunita and Kathleen.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Lisa Lankford Renfro and husband Tom, granddaughter, Kelsey Bishop and husband Brad, all of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister Barbara McKinley and husband Gayle, of Quanah, TX; 26 nieces and nephews, and other family, Beth Harris and husband Dustin of Stillwater, OK, and Leah Kostadinov and husband Atanas and their daughter Charlotte of Yukon, OK.
Wynell’s family would like to thank the staff of Tamarack Assisted Living Center, Plantation Village Memory Care, and Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice for taking wonderful care of her over the last four years.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Altus or a charity of your choice in memory of Wynell Lankford.
The family of Alma Wynell Lankford will receive friends at visitation from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday evening, June 28, 2019 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel in Altus.
