Obituary for Anna Madelon Herring
Anna Madelon Inzer Herring On Sunday September 17, 2000 Anna Madelon Inzer Herring passed from this life in the presence of her daughters. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the First Christian Church of Altus at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 20. Officiating will be Rev. Barry Worcester. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery with Lowell Tims Funeral Home directing. Born on June 24, 1920, the fourth child of Eugene Franklin and Blanche Bell Inzer in Altus, Oklahoma. Herring attended Altus Schools an graduated from High School in 1938. She married Raymond Leslie "Buck" Herring on March 29 in 1939. While raising a family she served as the piano accompanist for Evelyn Brooks School of Dance followed by Neil Hutton School of Dance, and Jenna Burke's Dance School She also taught at Jack 'n Jill Play School, Jim Dandy Kindergarten and Grace Day Kindergarten. After devoting years to raising three children, she returned to Altus Junior College in 1957 and obtained an elementary teaching degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State College. Retiring in 1988, her professional career included teaching 4th grade at Eugene Field Elementary School and 5th grade at L. Mendel Rivers Elementary School. Her exceptional sense of humor and love of others inspired and touched countless lives. Active in the First Christian Church and choir throughout her life, she also enjoyed biking, swimming, skating, dancing, playing the piano and her friends. Other than church organizations her primary interests included garden, bridge and Mother's Clubs. Known as "Moomie" among the younger set, she occupied her final years enjoying family and friends. Family members preceding her in death include her mother and father, a brother, Eugene Orin Inzer; a sister, Esteen Roberts: step-mother, Clara Southall Carter Inzer; and her husband in 1985. Survivors of her immediate family include her children Gloria Rustmann, Altus; Larry Herring of Edmond and Kathy McMahan and husband Robert of Altus; grandchildren Trey Rustmann of Tampa, Florida; Gabrielle Rustmann Vernon and husband Rod of Altus; Preston Herring who is currently stationed with the U S Army in Italy, Chelsen Herring, Edmond, Oklahoma; Cole and Matthew McMahan of Altus and one great-grandson, Gage Vernon of Altus and special lifelong friend Velma Robinson. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Altus or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Inc. 7110 West 188th Street, New York, NY 10032-9982 The Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 PM at Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
