Obituary for Arthur Goodwin
Edward Arthur Goodwin Arthur Goodwin was born August 10, 1916, in Olustee, Oklahoma. He died two days before his 84th birthday, on August 8, 2000. Service will be held Friday, August 11, 2000, at l0:00 AM at First United Methodist Church with The Rev. Ken Pate officiating. Interment will follow at Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home. His family will greet friends Thursday, August 10, from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home. Arthur grew up near Altus and graduated from Altus High School in 1934. After attending two years of college he entered the Army Air Force and served four yeas as an aircraft maintenance technician during World War 11. During that time he met and married Dorothy Hunter, then returned with her to Altus to help run the Goodwin family farm. A daughter, Jane, and a son, Lynn, were born to them, then Dorothy preceded him in death in 1966. Arthur married Willa Lee (Caster) Hines on September 12, 1968, and in doing so acquired three more daughters and another son. He spent the remainder of his life farming and caring for family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lynford A. Goodwin and Amy Josephine (Cobb)Goodwin; one brother L. A.; Jr. and a brother and sister-in-law, Emerson and Mona Goodwin; a sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Harry Ellis, and his wife Dorothy. Arthur was man of compassion and integrity whose wisdom was respected by family members and friends alike. Beneath his gruff exterior, those who knew him found a dependable, tenderhearted friend. He will be missed by those he leaves behind: his wife, Willa Lee Goodwin, of the home in Altus; six children: Jane Goodwin of Amarillo, Texas; Lynn and Shari Goodwin of Tulsa Oklahoma; Linda and Ray Chisum of Placentia, California; Margie and Phillip Garrison of Tucson, Arizona; Karen and Bob Christian of St. Louis, Missouri; and Jim and Joyce Hines of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; one sister, Katherine Jordan of Shawnee, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren: Carol Rogers, David Chisum, Toby Garrison, Wayne Garrison, Rob Christian, Michael Christian, Andrea Herrera, Amy Cochie, Christy Goodwin and Julie Goodwin; nine great grandchildren; and a host of friends. The family has requested that memorials honoring Arthur be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or the America Red Cross.
