Arthur L. Coburn, age 86, of Granite, passed away Friday morning, May 14, 2010, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Coburn was born on April 30, 1924, to John R. and Garnet Lucille (Hughey) Coburn, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. After graduation, from Bristol High School, in 1942, he was immediately drafted into the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Upon discharge, he began a career with Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industry that eventually took him to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1974. It was there that he met Barbara Deas and they were married on March 9, 1979 and they spent the next thirty-one wonderful years together. In the summer of 1982, he moved to Granite where he lived until his death. Arthur worked for a time at Altus Air Force Base, but every opportunity he had, he spent it in playing golf. Arthur was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Clarksburg, West Virginia, a lifelong member of the VFW, a lifelong member of Amvets, a member of the American Legion and a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry where he held several offices in the Granite Lodge and was a current member of Altus Lodge 62.
Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, as an infant and a step son, Steve Miller, he is survived by his wife, Barbara Coburn, of the home; four children, Margaret "Peggy" Lynn Henry of Granite; Johnny Miller and wife Lisa of Ft. Worth, Texas; Ruth Watanabe of Oklahoma City and David Deas and wife Salah of Granite; nine grandchildren, Leonard Ronnie Bell, Jr., Mark Miller, Johnny Miller, David Miller, Sandra Watanabe, Hannah Deas, James Arthur Deas, Jessica Edwards and Michelle Rudd; seven great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Arthur Coburn will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 17, 2010, at the Granite First Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Van Vacter and Rev. Arol Steverson officiating. Interment will follow at Granite City Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.
