SEMPLE
Barbara V. Semple, 85, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Jackson County Memorial hospital.
Barbara was born on June 3, 1931 to George and Jane Guilford North at a British settlement in Gorakhpur, India. She was the youngest of four children. Barbara attended boarding school in the mountains of Mussoorie, India and would go on to receive what would be the equivalent of a Bachelor"s degree from a study away program from Cambridge University.
Due to a job shortage in her hometown, when she was 18 she left by herself to go live in London where she worked as a secretary for many years. It was there that she met the love of her life, US Air Force serviceman, James Semple and would spend the next 52 years together. With their daughters, they traveled throughout the United States & England. Upon James"s retirement from the US Air Force they settled in Danvers, Massachusetts. Barbara held a variety of jobs throughout her travels, of which included - a stay at home mother, a census taker, and a jewelry clerk.
Barbara and James loved being grandparents to their 4 grandchildren. She moved to Oklahoma to live with her daughter in 2015.
Barbara, while short in stature was large in personality, she was absolutely unforgettable to everyone who knew her. Barbara was a remarkable woman whose life was filled with love, and will be missed by all. Her legacy lives on in the many memories her family treasures.
Barbara is preceded into death by her parents, Jane and George, her siblings, Dudley, Patricia, and Jean, her husband James, and her infant son, James.
She is survived by her daughters Cathy Dock and husband Stephen, and Jane Trott and husband Delano, her four grandchildren, Melissa and partner David, James, Carolyn, Catherine, and great-grandson Jude. Also her special dog, Sunny.
There will be a memorial service for Barbara at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Humane Society of America or the Greer County Museum in memoriam of Barbara.
