Bertha Elsie burr, age 95, of Altus, entered her eternal home on Thursday, July 14 at Plantation Village Nursing Center following a brief illness.
She was born on September 12, 1909 in Canarsie, Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Newport, Long Island. She was married to Carlton W. Burr, Sr. on June 1, 1953 and enjoyed 50 years of marriage until his death in 1986.
Bertha is survived by four sons, Carlton Burr, Jr. of Riverhead, NY; Douglas Burr and his wife, Daphne, of Edmond, OK; Roger Burr, of Los Angeles, CA; and Russell Burr and his wife, Jane, of Stanford, CT along with one grand-daughter, Bethany Burr, of new York City, NY; and three grandsons, Nathan Burr of Houston, TX; Joshua Burr and his wife, Shauna, of Edmond, OK; and Jarrett Burr, of Lake Grove, NY.
Bertha came to Altus in October, 2001 to live at Plantation Village Assisted Living Center to be near her son, Douglas burr, who was then serving as senior pastor at the First Methodist Church of Altus. Her family is greatly appreciative of the marvelous care and wonderful reception shown to her by the staff of Jackson County Memorial Hospital during her recent hospitalization and the caring services of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
A grave side service is scheduled for Tuesday, July 19, at 11:00am at the Commack Cemetery, Commack, NY, under the direction of A.L. Jcobsen Funeral Home in Huntington Station, NY. In lieu of flowers gifts may be directed to the Memorial of the First United Methodist Church of Altus.
