Obituary for Betty Jean Braker

Betty Jean Braker, 82, of Eldorado, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024,

holding her daughter’s hand.

Betty was born on March 30, 1942, in Olustee, OK, to C.M. and Freddie Jean Wilson. She was the oldest of five children: Billy Mac Wilson, Rebecca Ann Gordon, Randy Gene Wilson, and Deborah Lynn Husley. Shortly after she was born the Wilson family moved to Big Lake, TX. When Betty was nine, the family moved to Kansas, then Arkansas, before moving back to

Jackson County and settling in Eldorado, Oklahoma, in 1958, where they raised thoroughbred racehorses. The Wilson family’s strong work ethic and deep love for animals shaped Betty into the woman she became.

On May 23, 1959, Betty married Emory “Glen” Braker. Together, they built a life in Eldorado, raising their children—Randy, Wendy, and Jimmy. Betty was determined to graduate high school. She returned to school and earned her diploma in May of 1962, while she was pregnant with Wendy. On October 3, 1978, Betty and Glen adopted twin 2-year-old girls, Rebecca Lynn and Alyson Jon. They later took in their 2-year-old niece, April Dawn, raising her as their own.

Betty and Glen ran several local businesses together, but her real passions were raising her children, managing the farm, and working with animals. Outside of the home, she worked for ten years at the Jackson County Tax Assessor’s office and for five years at Lingle’s Greyhounds. When her parents became ill, Betty left her job to care for them, welcoming them into her home

and continuing to manage the farm. She ran the farm and cared for the animals on her own until her health began to decline in May 2023.

Betty’s hugs were her way of expressing a depth of care that words could never capture. She was known for the way she cared for others, never turning away a stray or abandoned animal. Her home was always filled with the creatures she took in, and she never believed there were too many. A woman of faith and unwavering resilience, Betty was as tough as they come.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen, her brothers Billy and Randy, her sister Deborah, and her grandchildren Emorie Brooke Braker and Jimmy Brock Braker.

Betty leaves behind her children: Randy of Eldorado, Wendy and husband Steve of Quanah, Jimmy and wife Caroll of Eldorado, Rebecca Braziel and husband Haden of Quanah, Alyson Dawson and husband Johnny of Altus, and April Altom of Eldorado; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Betty’s legacy of love, faith, and resilience will live on through her family and the many lives she touched.

The Braker family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Eldorado Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the Eldorado Church of Christ with Eric Houck officiating interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery.

Services have been entrusted to Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma
