Obituary for Betty Jo Veach
Betty Jo Veach, 96, resident of Mangum, Oklahoma, passed away at Magnolia Creek Rehabilitation in Altus, Oklahoma.
Betty was born May 28, 1924, to Sim Timothy Barrett and Della Collins Barrett in Maysville, Oklahoma. She was the seventh of eight children born to the Barrett Family. Early in life, the Barrett family moved to Mangum, Oklahoma, where the family farmed the land; during the great dust bowl, the family moved into Mangum, Oklahoma. On October 15, 1942, Betty Jo Barrett married Leslie A.J. Veach. Of this union, three children were born, Wayne, Janie, and Betty Faye. Betty was a long time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Mangum, Oklahoma. The young Veach family became members of Trinity Baptist in the 1960s. Betty was a faithful member of the church serving on many boards and committees. She was a hardworking woman who took great pride in taking care of her family. She was known for her cooking skills and her sewing. Betty made her children’s clothes by hand. Betty loved her family profoundly but her purpose in life was to dote on her grandchildren; they were the light of her world.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sim Timothy Barrett and Della Collins Barrett, her seven siblings, Velma Mae Barrett, Thelma Jane Barrett, John David Buck Barrett, Marvin Abram Barrett, S.T. Lester Lee Barrett, Charles Ray Barrett, Buster Barrett; one daughter, Betty Faye Veach, and her husband of sixty-four years Leslie A.J. Veach.
Betty is survived by Son, Wayne Veach and wife Sheryl; Daughter, Janie Campbell and husband Patrick, Three grandchildren, Shadyll English and Kevin, Virginia Jo Rhoades and husband Haywood, Michael Wayne Veach; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn Randolph, Matthew Rhoades, Jonah Rhoades, Wayne Andrew Veach, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
