Obituary for Carissa Monet Thomas
The world has lost a shining light with the passing of Carissa Monet Thomas, a beloved resident of Mountain Park and a cherished member of the Duke community. At just 17 years old, Carissa left this world on February 6, 2025, in Duke, Oklahoma, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, kindness, and love that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her. Born on June 20, 2007, in Abilene, Texas, Carissa's life, though far too short, was a masterpiece of passion, connection, and artistry.

Carissa, affectionately known as Cris to her loved ones, was a senior at Duke High School, where her vibrant spirit and boundless talent touched everyone around her. She was a true artist in every sense of the word-her soul was a canvas, and her life was a symphony of colors, sounds, and emotions. Whether she was painting, drawing, or creating stunning digital art, Carissa had an extraordinary ability to bring beauty into the world. Her art reflected her depth and curiosity, revealing a young woman unafraid to explore the complexities of life and existence.

But Carissa's creativity didn't stop at visual art. She was a gifted actress, often taking the lead in school productions, where she captivated audiences with her charisma and dedication. Her love for acting was matched only by her incredible talent as a singer, her voice a testament to the beauty and passion she carried within. Through her performances, she shared pieces of her soul, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of witnessing her artistry.

Beyond her talents, Carissa was a friend like no other-dependable, compassionate, and always ready to lend a listening ear or a comforting shoulder. She had an innate ability to make others feel seen and valued, and her kindness was a beacon of light in the lives of those around her. She cherished her time with family, especially during moments spent playing video games like Minecraft, a tradition that began at a young age. These moments of joy and connection were a testament to the love and bond she shared with her family.

Carissa's life was deeply shaped by the love of her father, Landreth Emswiler, and her stepmother, Beverly Mier Emswiler, who became a pillar of support and care in her life. Together, they created a home filled with love, encouragement, and creativity.
Though Carissa's time on this earth was far too brief, her impact was profound. She leaves behind a legacy of love, artistry, and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the strokes of her paintbrush, the notes of her songs, the characters she brought to life on stage, and the countless lives she touched with her generous heart.

Carissa Monet Thomas was more than an artist; she was a radiant soul who reminded us all of the beauty of creation, the power of connection, and the importance of living with an open heart. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the extraordinary life she lived and the light she brought into the world. Rest in peace, dear Carissa. Your art, your voice, and your spirit will forever echo in our hearts.

On February 6, 2025, she passed away with her father Landreth 'Lane' Emswiler, and her sister Elise Mae Emswiler.

Left to honor her memory are her mom, Beverly Emswiler, her sister, Sophia Emswiler; her brother Merrick Emswiler, grandparents, David and Christine Emswiler, Samantha and Adalberto Esqueda, Matthew and Ruth Mier, Aunts, Maya Emswiler, Minda Emswiler, Denise Esqueda, Ana Goings, Erin and Willie Lee, Shirley and Colin Ross, Uncle, Christian Emswiler, Matt and Tara Mier and numerous cousins and extended family members.
