Obituary for Cecelia Margaurite Balenti
Mrs. Cecelia Margaurite Balenti, age 92, formerly of Altus, died Sunday at the La Palma California Intercommunity Hospital.

Funeral Mass has been set for 10:00 A.M., Monday at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be in Altus Cemetery under direction of Lowell Funeral Home.

Born November 15, 1885 at Karta Bay, Alaska, her early life was spent as a teacher in Alaska, particularly the Arts and was a renound artist and nationally known for her fine China paintings. Her father was Chief of the Haida Indian Tribes in Alaska and as a consequence her interests were trained and directed in the Indian folklore of that area. She was educated at the Carlisle Indian School in Penn and was married to the late Mike R. Balenti, a widely known athlete of the Jim Thorpe era. Mr. Balenti died in 1955. She was a resident of Altus from 1932 to 1964, having made her home in Burna Park, CA after that date. She was President of the Altar Society in Altus, remained active as a member of St. Pices V (Roman numeral 5) Catholic Church and was a Honorary Life Member of the Altar Society in Buena Park.

Survivors include: two sons, Mike Balenti of Bothell, WA and Tom Balenti of Buena Park, CA; one daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Tonemah of Flagstaff, AZ; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Roma Dee Balenti Zuber of Altus.
