Obituary for Charles Edwin Deadmon
Charles Deadmon, 80, was born in Reed, Oklahoma, and died April 22 in Pine Arbor Health Care Center in Silsbee. Graveside services were held April 25 in Eldorado, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Silsbee Friday, May 1 at 2 pm.
Charles was raised in the Victory, Oklahoma, graduating from Victory High School. During his summers he spent months with custom combine crews cutting wheat in the area of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska. He enlisted in the U S Army in 1946, serving in the Army of Occupation in Korea for over a year and was considered a World War II veteran. In 1948, he became a student at Central University in Edmond, Oklahoma. He and Marianne Dial were united in marriage in Eldorado, Oklahoma in 1950.
In 1949, Charles began seismic work that would take him to most of the Western states. The opportunity to travel enabled Charles and his family the chance to visit sites of interest, experience different cultures, and make many life-long friends. In 1961, he began working for the federal government. He first worked at the Nevada Test Site near Las Vegas, Nevada during the testing of the atomic bombs. The remainder of his twenty years of federal service was engaged in monitoring earthquakes while living in Puerto Rico, Alaska, and on the East Coast. Retiring in 1981, he returned to seismic work, retiring again in 1989. He then began a new career in security in southeast Texas, finally retiring in 1998.
Charles was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Silsbee where he sang in the choir. For several years, he served the church by answering the office phones and greeting visitors.
His parents, Jim and Lizzie Burden Deadmon, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Marianne Deadmon of Silsbee; daughter and husband, Cynthia and Roy King; grandchildren, Shari King, Toby King and wife Meredith, with their children, Riley, Tommy, and Baby King all of Houston. One uncle, Buford Deadman, of New Jersey and an aunt, Doris Hinson of Bedford, Texas, also survive.
His hobbies included working, photography, and collections. His photography hobby took him to all 254 counties in Texas where he photographed the courthouses. He loved music of any kind, from classical to pop to country to gospel. He was a kind, faithful individual who loved his family, church, and friends. If remembrances are chosen they may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Silsbee.
