Obituary for Charles Matthew Skates
Charles Matthew "Matt" Skates, 27, of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Matt was born August 9, 1983, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Jerry Roland Skates, Jr. and Margaret Ann (Farrell) Skates. He attended school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and in Riverdale, Georgia. He lived in Stockbridge, Georgia, for seven years before moving to Altus in April of 2010.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret "Peggy" Skates of Altus; his maternal grandmother, Patricia Farrell of Morrow, Georgia; one brother, John Holley and wife Niki of Stockbridge, Georgia; one sister, Amanda Skates and fianc" Raymond Hawk Smith, of Altus; one niece, Serenity Smith of Altus; two nephews, Kaleb Skates of Altus and Owen Holley of Stockbridge, Georgia; aunts and uncles, Martha Nelson and husband Bill of Morrow, Georgia, Lee Farrell and wife Jorean of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Gary and Jerrel Engles, also of Tulsa; ten cousins, Michael Farrell of Virginia, Hope Estes of Georgia, Melisa Clark of Georgia, Stephen Farrell of Oklahoma, Joshua Farrell of Washington, Christopher Farrell of Texas, Jared Farrell, Micah Farrell, Marjorie Engles, and Mary Skates, all of Oklahoma; and his former girlfriend, Karla Chambers of Georgia.
Matt was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Skates, Jr. on January 1, 2007, his paternal grandparents, two brothers, Danny Farrell and Robert Holley, and two infant sisters.
The family will hold their own memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the Altus Centennial Memorial Center in the Altus City Cemetery.
