Obituary for Charles Michael Nichols
Charles "Mike" Michael Nichols aged 74, former resident of Altus, and more recently of Gracemont, Oklahoma, passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Mike was born on January 23, 1951, in Altus, Oklahoma to Charles A. and Gayle (Walker) Nichols. He grew up on the family farm near Altus and graduated from Altus High school with the class of 1969. In school he was very active in 4-H, showing animals, and speaking, in which he excelled. Mike then attended Oklahoma State University for a short time before starting his more than 40-year career as a customer service technician with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., later AT&T.; Mike married Kandi Holloway on June 5, 1971, at the Headrick Baptist Church in Headrick, Oklahoma.
He was an avid OU fan. He loved fishing, woodworking, gardening, beekeeping, raising animals and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed his retirement by indulging in his many special interests.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Bobby King; grandparents, Jess and Verda Walker, and Howard and Lessie Nichols.
Survivors include a son, Brian Nichols and wife, Andrea; a daughter, Kenda Dean and husband, Luis Medrano; five grandchildren: Alison Nichols, Blaise Dean, Taly Dean, Nate Medrano and Layton Medrano; a sister, Melinda King; a brother, Mark Nichols and wife, Vickie; an uncle, Howard Nichols, Jr.; multiple nieces and nephews to include Bradley King, Brett King and wife, Ali, Reid Nichols and wife, Sarah, Kristin Nichols, and Morgan Burnam and husband, Derrick; many great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and two special cousins, Andy Malena and Barb Wax; along with a very special friend, Terri Gillean.
He lived an amazingly full life and was loved by all.
The family will have a celebration of life at 3 PM Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Centennial Memorial Chapel at Altus City Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the care of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
