Charles Ray Walton, age 49, of Mangum, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 17, 2009, at Mangum City Hospital.

Charles was born on December 20, 1959, to Wendell Earl and Evelyn Vernell (Harris) Walton in Ozona, Texas. Growing up and attending schools in south central Texas around Austin and Bastrop, he was involved in various construction, maintenance and mechanic jobs for most of his life. On October 4, 1997, he married Geneva Meyer in Austin, Texas. Playing pool, hot rod cars, and watching his Texas Longhorns were some of his favorite pastimes.

Preceded in death by his father, Wendell Earl Walton, in 2006, he is survived by his wife, Geneva Walton of San Marcos, Texas; twin sons, Jacob Walton and Christopher Walton of San Marcos, Texas; one daughter, Wendy Swanson of Granbury, Texas; three sisters, Beverly Goertz and husband Kenneth of Westcliffe, Colorado, Mona Walton of Mangum and Paula Nassar and husband Joseph of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Rodney Walton and wife Raqel of Mangum and Michael Walton of Mangum; three grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.

Graveside funeral services for Charles Walton will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009, with Mona Walton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
