SHUMATE
Charlie D. Shumate, age 100, passed away Monday morning, November 19, 2012, at his residence, in Mangum.
Mr. Shumate was born in rural Greer County, near Granite, Oklahoma, on September 24, 1912, to Schuyler Esco and Martha Ann (Damewood) Shumate. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to the Fairview Community, south of Mangum, where Charlie graduated from high school. On January 3, 1934, he married Vesta Leona Washburn and they made their home northwest of Mangum where he farmed and ranched for many years. After seventy-six years of marriage, he lost his loving wife, whom preceded him in death on June 27, 2010.
Mr. Shumate was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Otis Shumate, Lloyd Shumate and Ewing Shumate and three sisters, Hattie Crisp, Nellie Martin and Gladys Banister. He is survived by many nieces and nephews that were dearly loved.
Graveside services for Charlie Shumate will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
