Charlie Dwain Lovett, longtime resident of Mangum, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday August 15, 2023, at Mangum Regional Medical Center at the age of sixty-seven.
On April 26, 1956, Dwain Darrell Lovett and Edna Louise (Evans) Lovett welcomed their son, Charlie Dwain Lovett to this world. Soon after Charlie’s birth the Lovett family moved to Mangum, Oklahoma. On August 17, 1973, Charlie married Barabra McDonald in Wellington, Texas. Soon after Charlie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. This action built the foundation of the man he would become. He proudly served his country from 1974 to 1976. Charles attended basic training at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. During his time in the Corps, he served in warehouse maintenance and management. This job helped to see that all Charlie’s fellow Marines all received the proper gear and that it was well maintained. Charlie always willing to help and had a generous heart and spirit. After leaving the Corps, Charles and Barbara returned home to Mangum, Oklahoma to raise their children and be near their family. In 1993, Charlie started working for Mangum Brick as a kilnman operator. He loved working at Mangum Brick and took great pride knowing his bricks were being used as the foundation of so many households across the state and country. Charlie was medical retired from his position in 2012. In his free time and retirement Charlie relished camping, fishing, reading a good book, and riding the backroads with his sons. He loved his family more than life itself and cherished every moment he had with them. He worked hard to install the same fountains in his sons that were installed by his father. These were love of God, family, and country, also that a man’s word was his bond. He leaves a legacy of kindness and compassion to those who had the honor of knowing him.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parent’s, Dwain Darrell Lovett and Edna Louise (Evans) Lovett brother, Mike Lovett; sister, Michelle Lovett; and his uncle, Terry “Butch” Smith.
Left to honor his memory his beloved wife of fifty-years, Barbara Lovett, sons Chris Lovett, Chucky Lovett, Tracy Lovett and wife Chere, Brian Lovett and wife Kayla, brothers John Lovett and wife Sheila, George Lovett and wife Dawn, Jack Lovett, Reuben Lovett and wife Jamie; six grandchildren, Ashley Lovett, Justin Lovett, Kasey Lovett, Joshua Lovett, Gavin Lovett, Aveleen Ritter, one great grandson, Justin Lovett, stepmother, Barbara June Lovett; Charles had a very special relationship with his nieces, Elizabeth Reed, Yarina Lovett, nephews, Cody Ritter and RD Lovett, Jr. ; whom he considered his grandchildren as well.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday August 27, 2023, at the Red River Cowboy Church with Pastor Darrell Coffman officiating.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, Oklahoma.
