Obituary for Charlie "Sam" Samuel Baxter
Charlie "Sam" Samuel Baxter, 83, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012. He was born February 7, 1929 in Hess, Oklahoma to Earl E. and Irell (Fitzgerald) Baxter. His mother died when Sam was very young and he was raised by his father and step-mother, Willene, whom he loved dearly. He graduated from Southside High School in 1947.

On May 8, 1948, Sam and Maxine Blackman were united in marriage in Vernon, Texas. They lived in the Hess and Tipton area all of their lives where Sam raised pleasure horses. He had a love of all animals and was known to have various types of animals at any given time. He was also a heavy equipment operator, working for Tillman County for many years.

Sam was a faithful member of the Tipton First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Tipton Masonic Lodge and later of the Frederick Masonic Lodge when the two chapters consolidated. He was a 32 degree Mason as well as a Shriner. Sam has served his country in the US Marines.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine of the home; two daughters, Kay Wilson and husband Ron of Fruita. Co, and Lynette Green of Arlington, Tx; three grandchildren, Keith Brooking and wife Shasta of Hess, Ok., Amy Sanders of Lawton, Ok, and Mendie Schmidt of Denton, Tx; five great-grandchildren, Harli Brunson of Tipton, Ok, Kirbi Brooking of Hess, Ok, Lindi Brooking of Hess, Ok, Amelia White of Denton, Tx and Brendan White of Denton, Tx; one nephew, Larry Baxter of Texas; as well as other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Irell Fitzgerald Baxter; father, Earl E. Baxter; step-mother, Willene Baxter; two infant daughters, Violet Sue and Janice Willene; and by two brothers.

Funeral Services have been scheduled for 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 20, 2012 at the Tipton First Baptist Church with Rev. Les Banks and Rev. Paul Beam officiating. Interment will follow in the Hess Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
