Obituary for Claude Ray Preston
Claude Ray Preston was born November 27th, 1910 in Texas to the late Walter and Julia Preston. He died November 19th, 1994 in Altus, Oklahoma. He married Vivian Peyton in 1932 and she preceded him in death July 7, 1984. He resided in Jackson County while growing up. He served in the U.S. Army over 30 years, beginning at Fort Sill and retired as a Major. He served for three years in Europe during WWII and another year in the Korean Conflict. He earned the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the U.N. Ribbon with five battle stars, the Korean Service Medal, the Purple Heart, and several Campaign Medals and Good Conduct Medals.

He moved back to Jackson County and lived in Altus after his retirement in 1952, and was an active member of the American Legion Post for several years.

Graveside Services are scheduled for 11 A.M. Tuesday at the Restlawn Cemetery with Rev. Bill Osborne officiating. Masonic and Military Honors will accompany. Lowell Tims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include: two children, JoAnn Preston-Huerta of Altus, OK and Nita Hall of Flower Mound, TX; one brother, Frank Preston of Altus, OK; one sister, Dorothy Houston of Oregon.
five grandchildren, Michelle Collins, Melinda Kuharski, Greta Wilson, Gretchen Gurtler and Holly Peyton; four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
