Obituary for Clifton Decherd Thomas
Clifton Decherd Thomas, a resident of Jenks, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly June 15, 2024, at his home. He was born July 31, 1973, in Alexandria, Louisiana to John and Virginia (Gilliland) Thomas. After a summer in Louisiana, the family moved back to Auburn where John earned a veterinary degree. The family settled in Altus where Decherd spent his childhood.
Decherd graduated from Altus High School in 1992 and attended Oklahoma State University where he earned a degree in agriculture communication. His career journey took him through roles at the Philbrook Museum of Art, MCI and Williams Communications. Interested in a career in law, he graduated from Tulsa University School of Law. Passing the bar, he practiced criminal and family law, dedicating himself to advocating for others.
Beyond his professional achievements, Decherd was a devoted family man. He married Stacey Hipsher in Oklahoma City and cherished every moment with his son, Miller McCaa Thomas.
Decherd loved the outdoors, and over the years he enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He particularly enjoyed deep-sea fishing off the coast of Florida and fishing for wild trout in a mountain stream in Colorado. His love for nature was only surpassed by his love for family and friends.
Decherd is survived by his wife, Stacey Thomas; son, Miller McCaa Thomas; his parents, Dr. John and Virginia Thomas; and his mother-in-law, Sherry Hipsher. He is also survived by his brother, John Henry Thomas, II and wife, Tiffany; his sister, Sara Thomas Haynes; and several nieces and nephews including James Allen Thomas, Logan Tyler Thomas, Cole Heston Thomas, Bennett McCaa Haynes, and Blake Haynes. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Glen Hipsher, and grandparents John Henry and Virginia Thomas, and Clifton and Lodee Gilliland.
A memorial service to celebrate Decherd's life will be held at First Methodist Church at 2:00 PM Monday, June 24, 2024 with Rev. Jerry Raab officiating and assisted by Rev. Doug Altom. Services are entrusted to the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory in Altus, Oklahoma.
