WHEELER

Corrine Wheeler, age 93, of Marlow, formerly of Mangum, passed away Friday afternoon, April 5, 2013, at Duncan Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Wheeler was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on May 30, 1919, to Mitchell and Earnest (Smith) Maxfield. Attending Mangum Schools all twelve years, Corrine graduated with the class of 1937, and continued her education at Mangum Junior College, earning her associate degree. On July 6, 1941, Corrine married the love of her life, Warren Wheeler, in Mangum, and they spent the next forty-four wonderful years together before his death on November 11, 1985. After Warren"s retirement from the U.S. Postal Service, they toured many states and traveled to several different locations in their RV along with their snowbird friends. After his death, she made three trips to Europe, enjoying each one. In 1987, Corrine moved south of Waurika to be near her family and in August 2012, she moved to Marlow where she lived until her death. An accomplished seamstress, Corrine sewed for the public, and also made her daughters" dresses and dresses for her girls" dolls. A long-time faithful, active member of the Church of Christ, Corrine was a Bible Class teacher who was involved in many programs of the church including the monthly sewing trips to Westview Boys Home where the ladies spent the day sewing and mending the boy"s clothes and many years working in the Compassion Center in Waurika. Corrine loved her family and enjoyed spending time with each of them and she will be greatly missed.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren; one sister, Irene Johnson and one brother, Ed Maxfield, she is survived by two daughters, Donna Myers and husband Dan of Rush Springs, Oklahoma and Linda Chapman and husband Joe of Denison, Texas; four grandson, Brad Myers and wife Kary of Mustang, Oklahoma, Scot Myers and wife Deanna of Rush Springs, Oklahoma, Jay Chapman and wife Amy of Edmond, Oklahoma and Barry Chapman and wife Jennifer of Sherman, Texas; nine great grandchildren, Kade Myers, Sage Myers, Kacy Myers, Daniel Myers, Lilly Kate Myers, Warren Chapman, Bobby Chapman, Tressie Chapman and Ellie Grace Chapman; one sister-in-law, Vada Maxfield of Texas along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Corrine Wheeler will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Greer Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that contributions be made to the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ Prayer Garden, Duncan, Oklahoma in memory of Corrine Wheeler.
