Curtis Ahkeah Scott, age 64, of Altus, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 31, 2013, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.
Mr. Scott was born in Nageei, New Mexico, on the Navajo Reservation, on January 12, 1949, to Willie and Eula (Martinez) Ahkeah. As an infant, he moved to Mancos, Colorado, where he attended school and graduated from in 1968. Shortly thereafter, Curtis joined the United States Air Force and on June 6, 1969, he married Charlotte Blackmore. Throughout his career, Scott and his family were stationed at several different locations, but Misawa Japan was their favorite, special assignment. In 1990, they moved to Altus Air Force Base and Scott retired in 1992. Immediately after retiring from the Air Force, Scott began a career at Vernon State Hospital, as a nurse"s aide, and spent the next twenty-one years helping others. In his spare time, Scott enjoyed country and western dancing, listening to old country and western music, deer hunting, trout fishing, a game of basketball and being with his family, especially his grandson.
Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Scott and Donald Ahkeah; one sister, Mary Ann Ahkeah and his adopted parents, Arlene and Franklin Scott, he is survived by two children, Franklin Scott and wife Bethany of Tulsa and Kimberly Scott and husband Michael Sanders of Ft. Worth; one grandson, Darren Sanders of Ft. Worth; three sisters, Arlene Ahkeah of Shiprock, New Mexico, Rita Cornfield of Cortez, Colorado and Resa Oglesby of Albuquerque, New Mexico; four brothers, Wallace Ahkeah of Cortez, Colorado, Arnold Ahkeah of Grand Junction, Colorado, Sammy Ahkeah of Shiprock, New Mexico and Roger Ahkeah of Shiprock, New Mexico; a special friend and companion, Virginia Thompson along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Curtis Scott will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Erin Martinez officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
