Obituary for Daniel Alan Hager
Captain Daniel Alan Hager, age 42, of Altus AFB, Ok. passed away Thursday, November 27, 2003, from injuries sustained in a car accident on the previous day while en route from Dallas, Texas.

Born January 30, 1961, at Tachikawa Air Base, Toyko, Japan , he was the son of Master Sergeant (/retired) Keith and Chieko (Ando) Hager.

His educational achievements included graduation from the Christian Academy in Japan (CAJ) in 1979, Oregon State University with Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Business Administration in 1983, Golden Gate University, in Sacramento, California in 1994 with Masters Degree in Business Administration. He was accepted at Dallas Theological Seminary, and was to start studies in January 2004. He was in the process of moving his family to Dallas when he met his untimely death.

Prior to high school, Dan showed little in sports, but was an avid reader. He had to be constantly reminded to turn the lights on. He was also a proficient chess player.

At CAJ, Dan was very visible in the school's religious activities. He became interested in sports and participated in cross country, shot putting and wrestling. In wrestling, he was continually dieting or gorging to enable him to substitute for a missing wrestler in a different weight class.

At Oregon State, in addition to putting in long hours of study, he played intramural touch football, and worked at various jobs, including janitor at the local newspaper.

Dan received his commission in the United States Air Force through Officer Training School in 1984, and served his country with distinction and selflessness as a Master Navigator in the KC-135 Stratotanker for 20 years.

Highly accomplished as a career officer, the focus of Dan's adult life was his family. On July 19, 1980, he married the love of his file, Laurie Scott of Milwaukie, Oregon. Through their 23 years of marriage Dan and Laurie raised ten children in the fear and admonition of the Lord Jesus Christ. In Dan's words, God's clear calling for his life was to "lead his Family" to have a pure heart," and "to help His church"

Dan enjoyed meeting with fellow believers in Christ, and was constantly upbeat and edifying. He had a particular gift for mentoring children to live upright lives. He was a leader in AWANAs, Pioneers, Campus Ambassadors, and various other Christ-centered organizations. Dan has ilterally toughed the lives of hundreds of children.

Dan was preceded in death by his son, Takashi. He is survived by his wife Laurie; Nine children; Benjamin, Christina, Aaron, Laelann, Tomokazu, Yutaka, Wesley, Megumi, and Lydia, Father and Mother, Keith and Chieko Hager of Tokyo, Japan; Sister and Brother-in-law Nancy and Felipe Barican of Naples, Florida.
