Obituary for Danny Ray Thompson
Danny Ray Thompson was suddenly called home by his Savior Sunday, December 20, 2020, at the age of 66, after his courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his devoted wife, children, and their spouses. Danny was born December 2nd, 1954 to Myrna Parker and Ora Guy Thompson. He was raised by his beloved grandparents, Grady and Bulah Parker on their farm north of Altus. Danny attended Navajo Schools and graduated in 1973. He was blessed with three beautiful children, Angie, Parker, and Grady Ray Thompson. During the 10 years following, Danny worked for Blayne Vann, graduated from Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, OK, and started Temperature Control Specialists in Elk City. God led him back to Altus in 1982, where he worked alongside Ted Wooten, until January 1983. At that time, he began Dan’s Heating and Air Conditioning with Fred Armstrong, establishing his permanent roots in Altus, Oklahoma.

Danny’s love for sports began at Navajo, where he excelled and “made his name known” on both the baseball field and basketball court. His favorite pastime has always been fishing with good friends and family. He fished many tournaments with his good buddy, the late Craig Jackson, and even won a Skeeter boat or two for bragging rights. Danny started a tradition with his work family 15 years ago by providing guided weekend fishing trips each year at Lake Texoma. He took the profits from scrap copper and such in order to provide paid weekends full of fishing, games and food for his work families. Danny “T” also enjoyed hunting and shooting with his vast collection of guns. Many were graciously gifted by his work family at yearly Christmas parties hosted in his barn, from which he built mostly himself. Danny absolutely loved the outdoors and had an art for growing delicious fruits and vegetables. Just like he treasured his quality time spent playing dominos, marbles and cards with his beloved family, gardening was another seed instilled in him by his wonderful grandparents. Danny’s strengths were also abundantly clear during a late-night round of arm wrestling, reinforced by large monetary bets and payouts. Danny’s contagious laugh and hilarious sayings will sorely be missed.

Danny wed the love of his life, Angela Dianne Baxter on January 2nd, 2003. When Danny first met Angela in 2001, Angela thought they would share a nice friendship. Danny had something more in mind and true to form, he would not be deterred when his heart was set. That friendship quickly turned into a beautiful love story, with their wedding taking place at Rosemary Beach, Florida. As a result of this marriage, Danny gained a bonus daughter, Brittany Atterbury. Danny deeply loved his family, visiting the ocean seas at their Florida condo, and sharing many experiences with Angela. Danny’s most memorable trip of many was in October of 2017 when they visited the breathtaking Havasupai Indian Reservation located at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Whether they were traveling, harvesting a garden, watching football, nothing else pleased Danny more, as long as he and Angela were together. Danny Ray Thompson was truly the most honest, loyal, loving husband, father and Grandpa/ “Papa”. This amazing man will forever remain in our hearts.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister Rhonda Parker and nephew Steven, brother David and dearest friends Ted Wooten, Eddie Reaser and Michael Armstrong.

Danny is lovingly survived by his wife, Angela, three children, Angie Marple (Kevin), Parker Cornett (Jett), Grady Thompson (Kristin) and step-daughter Brittany Hand (Cale), brothers Bill Cook and Jimmy Butterbaugh, sisters Janet Allen and Roberta Enright, and ten beautiful grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, December 27th from 1:00 pm-8:00 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Services for Danny Ray Thompson will be 2:00 pm, Monday, December 28, 2020, at the First Baptist Church of Altus, Oklahoma. Graveside services will follow at Altus City Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma.
