Darrell Pierson, age 62, of Mangum, passed away Thursday evening, April 7, 2011, at English Village Nursing Home in Altus.
Darrell was born on October 31, 1948, in Mangum, Oklahoma to Earl LeeRoy and Juanita (Thomas) Pierson. After graduating from Mangum High School in 1966, Darrell worked for Puckett"s Grocery and later joined the U.S. Army in March of 1968, serving most of his time in Germany. After his discharge in March of 1974, he worked for United Grocery in Enid before returning to Puckett"s where he spent the next thirty plus years. A graduate of Southwestern College of Meat Cutters, Darrell owned and operated, "Darrell"s Place" where he processed deer meat. Throughout his life, Darrell enjoyed 4H and FFA projects and helping young people with their exhibits. Running Jeeps and four wheelers at Little Sierra and river running were some pastimes of Darrell"s, but spending time with his grandchildren was what brought the most joy to Darrell"s life.
Preceded in death by his father, Darrell is survived by his mother, Juanita Pierson of Mangum; two children, Ronnie Pierson and wife Rachel of Mangum and Autumn Pierson and fianc"e Eric Springer of Mangum; one brother, Wayne Pierson and wife Rhonda of Amarillo and; four grandchildren, Devin Pierson, Hunter Pierson, Ashlynn Pierson and Kaila Burton-Sappington; two nephews, Bryce Jennings and Tony Pierson; a niece, Kerrie Pierson; a great nephew, Brodee Bailey and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Darrell Pierson will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the Mangum Church of Christ with Eddie Beard and Todd McRay officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Saturday, April 9, 2011, from 6 until 7 p.m.
