Obituary for Darris Wheeler
Darris Wheeler, age 74, a longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
Darris was born in Hobart, Oklahoma on March 14, 1947 to his parents Ora Wheeler and Lorene (Brooks) Wheeler. Throughout the years, Darris served Southwest Oklahoma in many capacities in law enforcement including; a K-9 Officer for the Altus Police Department and as a Deputy Sheriff for Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Darris was always a cowboy at heart, a farmer and rancher and he enjoyed working with horses and cattle. He was a foreman for the C.F. Mock Ranch from 1979 to 1995 and he later retired in 2014 after many years with Jackson County District 1 and District 3. On April 16, 2002 he married Natalie Wheeler in Altus and they enjoyed many years of marriage together. Darris enjoyed traveling and especially taking trips to Colorado.
Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Doyle Coffman; Gayle Coffman; and Leon "Cat" Coffman; and his sister, Almeda Stowe; Darris is survived by his wife Natalie Wheeler of their home; his daughter, Staci Pollard and husband Michael; his son, Wade Wheeler; three granddaughters, Anna Fumbanks and husband Matt; Amy Pollard; and Katie Pollard; one great granddaughter, Natalie; his sister, Verna Wheeler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Private family services will be held in accordance with Darris's wishes.
