David Orey Tate, 81, of Mangum, Oklahoma died February 8, 2017, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma due to complications from lymphoma. He was surrounded by his family.
David was born October 22, 1935 in Owasso, Oklahoma to David Howard Tate and Asenath Christeen (Scott) Tate. After graduating from Collinsville High School in 1954, David enlisted in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957 serving in El Paso, Texas, Atlanta, Georgia and Germersheim, Germany. In addition to his normal Army duties, David enjoyed entertaining other soldiers playing guitar and singing country music. David graduated from Oklahoma City University in 1965 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1966.
On May 23, 1967 David married Lavina Frances Miller in Collinsville, Oklahoma. Together, David and Frances raised their children, began a successful accounting practice and were active members of the community and church. David dedicated his life to the things he loved; God, his family, music, his accounting clients, Saint Louis Cardinals baseball and Oklahoma State football. He did not like vegetables.
David is survived by his wife, Frances, of Mangum, Oklahoma; their children Jack Herron and spouse Jennifer Herron of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Fonda Houck of Granite, Oklahoma; Scott Tate and spouse Becky Tate of Maysville, Oklahoma; Kim Warren and spouse Ralph Warren of Duke, Oklahoma; Howard Tate and spouse Toni Tate of Houston, Texas; and Rachelle (Shelly) Davis and spouse Cleatus Davis of Mangum, Oklahoma; siblings Frances O'Dell of Collinsville, Oklahoma; Russell Tate of Saint Petersburg, Florida and Marie Balzer of Wichita, Kansas. David and Frances also have twenty grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. David is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Douglas Tate and brother Van Tate.
Funeral services will be held at the Martha Road Baptist Church 20388 East County Road 158, Altus, Oklahoma on Monday, February 13 at 2 p.m. Funeral arrangements are provided by Greer Funeral Home of Mangum, Oklahoma. David will be laid to rest in the Roselawn Cemetery, Mangum, Oklahoma.
