Delbert Winfred Holt, age 85, of Blair, passed away Sunday afternoon, Septeber 24, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Delbert was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on September 13, 1921, to Claude C. and Zulmee (Leonard) Holt. Graduating from Shawnee High School in 1939 he obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma where he was a four-year letterman in baseball. He received his Master's Degree from Southwestern State University in Weatherford. From September of 1942 until October of 1945, Delbert spent time serving his country in the United States Army earning the American Theatre Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. During this time he was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and other campaigns and battles in Central Europe and Rhineland. In 1950, he found his way to Blair and coached for thirteen seasons and was named the Coach of the Decade in the 1950's. Virtually all of his thirty years in education was spent in Blair except for three short years as the high school principal in Anadarko. In 1965, he was named superintendent of Blair Schools and retired from that position in 1982. On May 27th, 1956, Delbert married Oma Gean Capps in Blair. A deacon of the Blair First Baptist Church, Delbert enjoyed playing dominoes, anything connected with the University of Oklahoma and especially OU Athletics. He was a member of the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association and was enshrined in the Jackson County Sports Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Girls' Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
