Obituary for Dick Fontana
Dick Fontana, 71, resident of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Saturday December 21, 2019 at Comanche County Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Dick was born August 21st, 1948 in McAlister, Oklahoma to James and Naomi (Doughty) Fontana. He raised and educated in Pittsburg, Oklahoma. After High School he attended The University of Oklahoma, where he received his bachelors degree in broadcast journalism. He was a radio broadcaster with KWHW for many years in Altus, Oklahoma.Dick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was always there for his family and loved all of them very much. Dick served his community a variety of ways. He was the voice of that Altus Band for many years, he spoke at Candy Cane Cash, Rock n Rumble for many years. His true passion was weather. Dick was the voice of severe weather coverage on KWHW for the southwest Oklahoma communities. He not only protected his family but protected the lives of so many during his coverage. Dick loved giving movie reviews every week on the radio and loved going to Heritage Park Theater. He won an award from that Altus Band every year for being their voice during halftime shows. He worked with the Altus Community Theater by being in variety of plays. Dick had a great love for Jesus Christ and knew he was his personal Lord and saver. He enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, reading books but most of all he enjoyed being with his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his father James Fontana, and his mother Naomi E. (Doughty) Fontana.
Left to honor Dick's memory are his son; Jack Fontana, daughters; Amy Dunn and husband Tim, Holly Kirkegard and husband Chad, Emily Harding and husband Bryan, the mother of his daughters and best friend; Kathy Fontana, his brother; James David Fontana, grandchildren; Kaitlyn Dunn, Alex Dunn, Keeley Kirkegard, Cambry Kirkegard, Kallyn Kirkegard, Lucas Anderson and Katherine Anderson.
A memorial service will be held 2:00p.m. Friday January 3, 2020 at Freedom Church, Altus, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
